Abstract: Described herein is a coating composition comprising: (a) a metal catalyst, wherein the metal catalyst comprises at least one of platinum, ruthenium, iridium, and alloys and combinations thereof; (b) an at least highly fluorinated ionomer comprising a polymer backbone and a plurality of first side chains pendant therefrom, wherein the first side chain comprises at least one protogenic group, wherein the protogenic group is selected from a sulfonic acid, a bis(sulfonyl)imide, a sulfonamide, a sulfonyl methide, and salts and combinations thereof, and wherein the polymer backbone comprises an average of at least 14 carbon atoms between adjacent first side chains along the polymer backbone; and (c) a solvent. Such coating compositions may be used to make electrodes for electrochemical cells and have been shown to have reduced poisoning of the catalyst.

Abstract: A system includes an electrochemical cell pack. The electrochemical cell pack includes a housing having an interior space; a plurality of electrochemical cells disposed within the interior space; and a thermal management fluid disposed within the interior space such that the electrochemical cell is in thermal communication with the thermal management fluid. The system further includes a vent assembly comprising a flow control mechanism and a filter assembly disposed downstream of the flow control mechanism. The flow control mechanism is configured to enable fluid communication between the interior space of the housing and the filter assembly upon a condition within the interior space exceeding a predetermined threshold value. The filter assembly comprises an absorbent or adsorbent filter configured to remove one or more fluorine containing toxic components from a fluid stream passing through the vent assembly.
