Abstract: Light shielding articles are provided. Light shielding articles include a first multilayer optical film comprised of alternating first and second polymeric optical layers collectively reflecting at an incident light angle of at least one of 0°, 15°, 30°, 45°, 60°, or 75°, an average of at least 70, 80, 90, or 95 percent of incident visible light over at least a wavelength range from 400 nanometers (nm) to 700 nm. The light shielding articles further include either a second multilayer optical film or a barrier coating disposed on the first multilayer optical film. The light shielding article transmits at an incident light angle of at least one of 0°, 15°, 30°, 45°, 60°, or 75°, an average of at least 70, 80, 90, or 95 percent of incident radio frequency waves in at least one wavelength range from 1 mm to 10 mm, 10 mm to 100 mm, or 100 mm to 1000 mm. Additionally, an electromagnetic receiver and/or emitter is provided that includes a light shielding article according attached to at least a portion of the electromagnetic receiver and/or emitter.

Abstract: A barrier film having a substrate, a base polymer layer applied to the substrate, an oxide layer applied to the base polymer layer, and a top coat polymer layer applied to the oxide layer. An optional inorganic layer can be applied over the top coat polymer layer. The top coat polymer includes a silane and an acrylate co-deposited to form the top coat layer. The use of a silane co-deposited with an acrylate to form the top coat layer of the barrier films provide for enhanced resistance to moisture and improved peel strength adhesion of the top coat layer to the underlying barrier stack layers.

Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to methods of forming barrier assemblies. Some embodiments include application of an adhesive layer and/or a topsheet to protect the exposed uppermost layer of the barrier stack during roll-to-roll processing. Some embodiments include application of an adhesive layer and/or a topsheet before the exposed, uppermost layer of the barrier film contacts a solid surface or processing roll. Inclusion of an adhesive layer and/or a topsheet protects the oxide layer during processing, which creates an excellent barrier assembly that can be manufactured using roll-to-roll processing.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a solar device, comprises one or more photovoltaic cells disposed in an encapsulant and a light control structure including a louver film having a series of louver structures, wherein each louver structure includes one or more groupings of a plurality magnetizable particles aligned at least in a first orientation dispersed in a binding matrix. The light control structure substantially transmits light incident at a first angle and substantially limits transmission of light incident at a second angle. Each louver structure is spaced apart from an adjacent louver structure, wherein each louver structure is substantially aligned in a plane substantially parallel to an adjacent louver structure.

Abstract: Barrier films including a (co)polymeric substrate, at least one dyad on the substrate, each dyad made of a (co)polymer layer and an oxide layer overlaying the (co)polymer layer, and an outer (co)polymer layer overlaying the dyads. Optionally, at least one outer oxide layer overlays the outer (co)polymer layer. The barrier films transmit visible light and transmits, at an incident light angle of at least one of 0°, 30°, 45°, 60°, or 75°, at most 70 percent of incident ultraviolet light at a wavelength range from at least 100 nanometers to 400 nanometers or in a wavelength range from at least 100 nm to 350 nm. The barrier films exhibit atomic oxygen degradation of less than 1×10−20 mg/atom. The barrier films may be applied to decorative objects or electronic devices, (e.g., light receiving or emitting devices, in a satellite or aircraft. Methods of making the barrier films also are disclosed.
