Abstract: A composition and method of detecting an analyte in a sample using the composition, the composition including: a liquid that includes water; a plurality of first hollow glass bubbles in the liquid; a plurality of covalently attached first affinity groups that are covalently attached to at least some of the plurality of first hollow glass bubbles; and a plurality of first detector compound molecules not covalently bonded to the plurality of first hollow glass bubbles; wherein the first detector compound molecules include a first detectable group that is detected at a first wavelength; and wherein the first hollow glass bubbles have: a density of less than 0.60 gram/mole; a span of less than 1.0; and a plurality of covalently attached first affinity groups.

Abstract: A method of detecting microorganisms in a test sample is provided. The method includes the steps of: a) incubating the test sample with a growth media to form an incubated sample, wherein the growth media includes an enzyme substrate and the enzyme substrate includes an enzymatically hydrolysable group and a fluorescent group, wherein microorganisms present in the test sample include an enzyme that hydrolyzes the hydrolysable group from the fluorescent group to form a fluorescently detectable product, wherein the fluorescently detectable product has both an acidic and basic species; b) exciting the fluorescently detectable product with light having a wavelength of Exλiso for a time sufficient for the fluorescently detectable product to emit light, wherein Exλiso is the absorbance isosbestic point of the fluorescently detectable product; and c) detecting light emitted at a wavelength of Emλ1.

Abstract: Assay devices are provided including a receptacle having a sample entry port; a plunger disposed within the receptacle; at least one reagent; a membrane attached to a first surface of the plunger; a wick providing capillary force; and a detection zone. The membrane includes a target conjugate zone in which affinity components are disposed. Capture compounds are immobilized in a detection zone, which is located between the target conjugate zone and the wick. A method of detecting a target analyte is also provided, including providing the assay device; providing a sample suspected to contain a target analyte; adding the sample onto the device; allowing the sample to travel along the membrane until the sample reaches the detection zone; immobilizing the target analyte through reaction of the target analyte with the capture compounds; reacting the immobilized target analyte with a reagent to generate a detectable signal; and detecting the generated signal.

Abstract: An azido-containing monomer, a polymer containing monomeric units derived from the azido-containing monomer, and various articles containing a substrate and a coating layer of the polymer positioned on the substrate are provided. Abstract: A self-contained biological sterilization indicator comprises: a housing; bacterial spores comprising, and/or capable of producing, an enzyme capable of catalyzing cleavage of an enzyme substrate; and a frangible container containing a composition, wherein the composition comprises the enzyme substrate, wherein if the frangible container is broken the composition will contact the bacterial spores to form a mixture having an initial pH in the range from 6.0 to 9.0. A biological sterilization indicator comprising a kit containing isolated components comprising (i) bacterial spores comprising, and/or capable of producing, an enzyme capable of catalyzing cleavage of the enzyme substrate and a method of assessing efficacy of a sterilization process are also disclosed.
