Abstract: Described herein is a pressure sensitive adhesive comprising a polyurethane polymer derived from a polyester polyol and a polyisocyanate component, wherein the polyester polyol, which is derived from a first reaction product of (a) a Component A, wherein the Component A is a phthalic acid, a phthalic anhydride or mixtures thereof, (b) a Component B, wherein the Component B is a dimer fatty acid, a dimer fatty acid diol or mixtures thereof, and (c) a Component C, wherein the Component C is an aliphatic diol, an aromatic diol, or mixtures thereof, wherein Component C comprises 2 to 10 carbon atoms and optionally catenated heteroatoms selected from O, S, and N. Also disclosed herein are polyurethane polymers and pressure sensitive adhesives made from the polyurethane polymers or the polyester polyols.

Abstract: A method of making a coated abrasive article includes disposing a precursor make layer on a major surface of the backing, optionally partially curing the precursor make layer to provide a partially cured precursor make layer, disposing abrasive particles; partially embedding abrasive particles in the optionally partially cured precursor make layer; and further curing the optionally partially cured precursor make layer to form a make layer. The precursor make layer comprises components comprising: a) 50 to 97.99 percent by weight of phenol-formaldehyde resin; b) 1 to 49 percent by weight of resorcinol-formaldehyde resin; c) 1 to 49 percent by weight of at least one compound having at least one free-radically polymerizable group; and d) 0.01 to 1 percent by weight of a free-radical initiator. A size layer and/or supersize layer may be disposed over the make layer and abrasive articles. Coated abrasive articles made by the method are also disclosed.

Abstract: Primer layers for adhesion of pressure sensitive adhesive materials to substrates comprise a cured primer which is the reaction product of an epoxy resin and a polyamine. The epoxy resin may be an aromatic epoxy resin. The polyamine may be a polymer such as polyethylenimine (PEI) or polyvinylamine (PVA). Two-layer constructions comprise the primer layer according to the present disclosure and a substrate layer, which may be directly bound to the primer layer. The substrate layer may comprise one or more polyester polymers, may comprise one or more polymers comprising aromatic groups, and/or may comprise polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Tapes comprise the two-layer construction according to the present disclosure and a pressure sensitive adhesive layer, which may be directly bound to the primer layer. The tape may comprise a second pressure sensitive adhesive layer borne on the opposite face of the tape and optionally a foam layer.

Abstract: The composition includes a polythiol having more than one thiol group and an allylic resin having more than one allyl group. The composition typically includes inorganic filler. Typically, at least one of the polythiol or the allylic resin has more than two thiol or allyl groups, respectively. A two-part body repair composition including the composition and use of the composition as a body repair composition are also disclosed. Methods of repairing a damaged surface are also disclosed. The method can include combining a composition with at least one of an organic peroxide or hydroperoxide, applying the composition including at least one of the organic peroxide or the organic hydroperoxide to the damaged surface, and curing the composition on the damaged surface to provide a cured composition. The composition includes a polythiol having more than one thiol group, an allylic compound having more than one allyl group, and inorganic filler.

Abstract: A coated abrasive article (100) comprises: a backing (110) comprising polyester and having a major surface (115); a tie layer (120) directly bound to at least a portion of the major surface (115); and an abrasive layer (130) directly bound to at least a portion of the tie layer (120), the abrasive layer (130) comprising abrasive particles (160) and at least one binder resin (140). The tie layer (120) comprises an at least partially cured blend of, on a solids basis, from 50 to 99 parts by weight of at least one styrene-butadiene copolymer latex and from 1 to 50 parts by weight of at least one resorcinol-formaldehyde resin. A treated backing (110) comprising polyester having the preceding tie layer (120) directly bound thereto is also disclosed.

Abstract: An ionic diol has formula wherein R1 represents an alkyl group having from 6 to 18 carbon atoms; R2 and R3 independently represent alkyl groups having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms; R4 represents an alkylene group having from 2 to 8 carbon atoms; and R5 represents an alkylene group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms. Antistatic polymers are formed by copolymerization of monomers including a diisocyanate, an ionic diol, a polyether diol, and at least one non-ionic diols. Methods of making the antistatic polyurethanes are also disclosed.

Abstract: Polyester polymers are described comprising polymerized units comprising a hydroxy functional aromatic group wherein the hydroxy group has been functionalized with an adhesion promoting group. In some embodiments, the polyester polymer comprises polymerized units have the general structure (A) wherein L1 and L2 are independently divalent linking groups comprising an ester group; and RA is an adhesion promoting group bonded to the oxygen atom by means of an ionic or covalent bond. In other embodiments, film articles, laminates are described and methods of making functionalized polyester polymers are described.
