    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To clean soil polluted by a heavy metal by bringing the soil into contact with an aq. soln. of a metal ion scavenger comprising saponin obtd. from fruits of high deciduous trees of the family Aesculus turbinata to cause heavy metal ions to migrate into the aq. soln. SOLUTION: A saponin having three saccharide groups and one carboxyl group is obtd. from fruits of trees of the family Aesculus turbinata. The saccharide groups include residues of glucuronic acid, glucose, and xylose. The saponin is called escin and is solid at normal temp. Escin has not only a metal-ion- scavenging capablity but also a function as a dispersant capable of converting a heavy metal salt of huminic acid or a metal oxide into fine particles and dispersing them. Therefore, escin can clean soil polluted by a harmful heavy metal, such as Cd, Cu, Zn, or Pb. The polluted soil is cleaned by putting it into and stirring it in a 0.8-7wt.% aq. soln. of escin. A heavy metal caught in the soln. is adjusted to a pH of 2.5 or lower and is recoverd.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a liposome capable of releasing included drug according to the reducting condition and pH condition of outer aqueous phase and having excellent affinity to keratin by including N,N'-diacylcystine in wall membrane. CONSTITUTION:The wall membrane material of the objective lipsome is composed of a mixture of phospholipid molecule and N,N'-diacylcystine and, as necessary, added with cholesterol to reinforce a bimolecular membrane and dicetyl phosphate,stearylamine, etc., as a charge substance. The acyl group of the N,N'-diacylcystine has a C-number of 8-22, preferably 10-18 and the amount of the diacylcystine is 5-40 mol%, preferably 10-30 mol% based on total wall membrane. When the above liposome containing insulin as a drug component is administered, glucose is dehydrogenated with enzyme in the body activated by the increase of glucose and, as a result, cystine is reduced and insulin is released by the destruction of liposome. Accordingly, the objective liposome is useful as a remedy for diabetes.

    Abstract: NEW MATERIAL:A 2-n-decyl-3-hydroxy-n-tetradecanoic acid expressed by the formula (OR is OH or alcohol residue) or ester thereof. USE:A raw material for immunological activator having low toxicity and powerful cell activating action or biodegradable surfactants having well balanced lipophilicity and hydrophilicity. PREPARATION:A lauric acid ester is thermally condensed in the presence of sodium hydride to provide a compound expressed by formula II (OR is alcohol residue). The ketone grope of the resultant compound is then reduced to afford the compound expressed by formula I (OR is alcohol residue), which is, as desired, treated with an alkali to provide the compound expressed by formula I (OR is OH). Furthermore, although such compounds consist of a mixture of the syn- and anti-isomers, the mixture can be separated into the respective isomers by a syn-anti-isomer separating technique, such as thin-layer chromatography.

Furthermore, the straight-chain surfactin of formula I is obtained by charging, e.g. a cycloheptapeptide type surfactin of formula II into a glass bottle having a lid, adding 2N NH4 OH thereto, allowing the surfactin to stand at 37 deg.C for 4 days, further blowing nitrogen gas thereinto to remove ammonia, adding diethyl ether thereto to remove a soluble part, distilling diethyl ether away and drying the residue under reduced pressure.

The resultant crude product is subsequently purified by silica gel column chromatography to afford surfactin pyrenacyl ester expressed by the formula.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide surface activity and a low-degree gel forming action to the title liposome by forming the liposome having a wall membrane consisting of the neutralization salt by an alkylamine of spiculisporic acid and/or the ring-opening product of its lactone ring. CONSTITUTION:The liposome having a wall membrane consisting of the neutralization salt by a 4-20C alkylamine of spiculisporic acid and/or the ring-opening product of its lactone ring, is formed. In the case of S-acid and O-acid, since a decyl group is chemically bonded to the acids, octylamine is preferably used to ionically bond two chains more to the O-acid to obtain the chemical structure to form the liposome. The obtained liposome having surface activity and a low-degree gel forming action as well as the capability to form liposome having a microscopic sphaerite structure, hence liposome is formed on the acidic side, micelles are formed on the alkaline side, and the molecule assembling configulations are reversely changed.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable the emulsification in an acidic region, by preparing a polybasic acid type bio-surfactant emulsified composition by a method wherein one or more kind of four specific compounds is compounded and the pH value of the obtained compound is adjusted to 7.0 or less. CONSTITUTION:At least one component among four components of 4,5- dicarboxy-4-pentadecanolide (spiculisporic acid) (hereinbelow, referred to as S-acid), 4,5-dicarboxy-4-pentadecanolide salt, 3-hydroxy-1,3,4-tetradecane tricar boxylic acid (hereinbelow, referred to as O-acid) prepared by opening the lactone ring of 4,5-dicarboxy-4-pentadecanolide and a salt thereof is compounded and the pH value of the obtained compound is adjusted to 7.0 or less to prepare a polybasic acid type bio-surfactant emulsified composition. As a method for adjusting the pH value to 7.0 or less, there is a method for preliminarily adjusting the amount of the base used in the saponification or neutralization of S-acid and O-acid.
