Abstract: A hydrophilic porous membrane having fine network structure and substantially comprising polypropylene is disclosed, which has on at least one side thereof a surface layer of about the same network structure as that of the inner portion, in which a hydrophilic polymer is chemically bonded to the membrane surface and fine pore surface, and which has an average pore size of 0.1 to 2.0 mu m, a bubble point of up to 2.0 kg/cm , voids of 60 to 85 %, and a water-penetrating amount of 2 ml/min.mmHg.m or more. This membrane is useful as a hydrophilic, plasma-separating membrane. A process for its production and a plasma-separating apparatus containing this membrane in a housing are also disclosed.

Abstract: A porous hydrophilic polypropylene membrane possessing a fine reticular structure, which is characterized by the fact that at least either of the opposite surfaces of membrane forms a surface layer of a reticular structure substantially equal to that in the interior of membrane, the membrane surfaces and the surfaces of pores in the membrane have a hydrophilic polymer chemically bonded thereto, and the membrane is composed substantially of a polypropylene possessing an average pore diameter in the range 0.1 to 2.0 .mu.m, a bubble point of not more than 2.0 kg/cm2, a porosity in the range of 60 to 85%, and a water permeability of not less than 2 ml/min.mmHg.m2, a method for the production thereof, and a blood plasma separation apparatus incorporating such membranes in a housing are disclosed.

Abstract: A hydrophilic porous membrane has graft chains of a hydrophilic monomer formed on the surface of a hydrophobic porous membrane so as to impart to the surface perfect hydrophilicity such that the produced membrane, when wetted, exhibits a swelling ratio of not more than 1% and a bubble point in the range of 0.5 to 8 kg/cm2. The hydrophilic porous membrane is produced by irradiating the hydrophobic porous membrane with plasma, feeding the hydrophilic monomer in a gaseous state, and allowing the hydrophilic monomer to be graft polymerized on the surface of the porous membrane. A plasma separator is obtained by using the aforementioned hydrophilic porous membrane as a plasma separation membrane.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a water-absorptive polymer in the form of a composite of a porous base with a graft polymer layer, by irradiating a porous base comprising a crystalline polymer with a plasma and graft-polymerizing a water-soluble monomer with the base. CONSTITUTION:This water-absorptive polymer is obtained by irradiating a porous base comprising a crystalline polymer with a plasma, impregnating this base with at least one unsaturated monomer containing at least one N,N- disubstituted (meth)acrylamide of the formula (wherein R and R are each H or a 1-4C alkyl provided that R and R can not be H at the same time, and R is H or methyl] and graft-polymerizing the monomer. The obtained water-absorptive polymer is one in which the graft polymer layer of said unsaturated monomer is formed as a uniform polymer layer formed by disintegrating the crystalline region of the porous crystalline polymer as the base. A desinable crystalline polymer which constitutes the base is polypropylene.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the anticoagulation property by specifying the initial immobilization quantity on the surface part of an antithrombotic coating film in a substance polymerizing anion graft molecule on the surface of a polymer material and applying the antithrombotic polysaccharides on the graft layer via linker molecule. SOLUTION: After gaseous-phase graft polymerization of a polymer material being a base substance 1 of an assistant artificial heart with radical- polymerizable anionic monomer, a cation linker polymer 2 is connected on the anion graft matrix by an electrostatic interaction by multipoint contact. Secondly, the graft layer is coated with antithrombotic polysaccharides 4 via a linker molecule 3 composed of the cation polymer to form an antithrombotic coating film. In this case, the sulfur content S2p/C1s by XPS in the uppermost layer to be coated with the antithrombotic polysaccharides 4 is set to 0.040 or more and the initial immobilization quantity by the anti-factor Xa activity is set to 40×10-3 IU/cm2 or more.
