    Abstract: An enzyme electrode comprises a polyion complex membrane of an immobilised enzyme formed on an electrode. The polyion complex membrane comprises polycations and polyanions. The polycations are polymers having cationic groups, examples being polylysine, poly(ethyleneimine), poly(dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) and quaternarized poly (vinyl pyrrolidone). The polyanions are polymers having anionic groups, examples being poly(styrene sulfonic acid), polyglutamic acid, perfluorinated ionomer, or poly(ester-sulfonic acid). The electrode is made by applying an aqueous solution of polycations (or polyanions) to the electrode, applying an aqueous solution of the enzyme, applying an aqueous solution of polyanions (or polycations), and drying. Lactic acid may be determined using lactate oxidase as the enzyme.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To efficiently produce an electrically conductive polymer film contg. particles by dispersing particles in a generally used insulating polymer film and combining the polymer film with an electrolytically polymerized polymer to convert the polymer film into an electric conductor. CONSTITUTION:An insulating polymer film contg. dispersed particles is formed on the surface of a substrate electrode. This coated electrode as a working electrode is put in an electrolyte soln. contg. a monomer capable of forming an electrically conductive polymer film by electrolytic polymn. on the surface of an uncoated substrate electrode used as a working electrode. Electric current is then supplied to carry out electrolytic polymn. The polymer film as a dispersion medium for the solid particles is converted into an electric conductor and an electrically conductive polymer film contg. particles is produced.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To measure a trace quantity of catechol amine contained in a living body with high sensitivity simply, quickly, and correctly without being disturbed by the ascorbic acid and uric acid contained at by far a high concentration. CONSTITUTION:A potential sufficient to electrolytically oxidizing catechol amine is applied to an acting electrode carrying fructose dehydrogenase and fructose, a sample containing catechol is brought into contact with it, the catechol amine concentration is determined from the obtained stationary current value, and the quantity of catechol is measured.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve an enzyme electrode to obtain a high sensitivity, quick response, high durability by mixing a polycation aqueous solution and a polyanion aqueous solution on a substrate electrode, drying the same and constituting a polyion complex film. CONSTITUTION: After a substrate electrode is pretreated, e.g. polished, etc., a polycation aqueous solution (or polyanion aqueous solution) is dropped onto the surface of the electrode, then an aqueous solution of an enzyme to be solidified is dropped. Finally, a polyanion aqueous solution (or polycation aqueous solution) is dropped. In the final dropping process, a polyion complex taking in the enzyme precipitates on the substrate electrode. When the aqueous solution is air-dried, an enzyme electrode with the solidified enzyme film on the substrate electrode is obtained. The ratio of the polycation and polyanion is preferably equivalent to that required for forming the complex. Moreover, the amount of the enzyme to be solidified is 10% or more, and desirably 30-100% to the polyion complex.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To make rapid and simple measurement with a high sensitivity by measuring catecholamines by an electrochemical method having simplicity under the conditions under which an oxidizing enzyme and the substrate org. matter of this enzyme exist in a sample chamber. CONSTITUTION:The oxidizing enzyme and the substrate org. matter of this enzyme are made to exist in the sample chamber at the time of measuring the catecholamines in a sample soln. contg. catecholamines of biotissue extracts, etc., such as dopamine, adrenalin, and noradrenalin. The electrode response with the catecholamines is then chemically amplified and the electrode response with ascorbic acids, etc., which disturb the measurement are not chemically amplified. The catecholamines are rapidly and easily measured with the high sensitivity by the electrochemical method which consists in impressing the potential necessary and sufficient for the electrolytic oxidation of the catecholamines to the electrode in this state and measuring the concn. of the catecholamines from the electrode current and has the simplicity.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To easily discriminate the anion contained in an aqueous solution, by applying potential scanning to a polydivinyl ferrocene membrane in the aqueous solution to measure the peak potential of a current-potential curve. CONSTITUTION:A conductor (acting electrode) 3 covered with a polydivinyl ferrocene membrane, a reference electrode 4 and an opposed electrode 5 are inserted in an aqueous electrolyte solution 2. Next, a potentiostat 6 and a function generator 7 are combined to perform potential scanning at a predetermined scanning speed. The obtained current-potential curve is recorded on an X-Y recording needle, and anode peak potential and cathode peak potential are read. Since said potentials show different values by the anion contained in the aqueous solution, the kind of the anion contained in an unknown specimen can be discriminated from said anode and cathode peak potentials.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To measure rapidly, easily and accurately the permeability of the film for a special chemical species in the aqueous solution including many components such as a fermentation liquid and a body fluid by obtaining the ratio of the time change of the response electric current output of the enzyme electrode and estimating the ratio of the time change of the density of the chemical type to transmit the film. CONSTITUTION:Through a film 1 to measure the permeability and the diffusion constant for a certain chemical species two aqueous solution phases 2 and 3 exist. Into the aqueous solution phase 3, the enzyme electrode is inserted in which a film 5 formed by fixing the oxidizing enzyme with the above- mentioned chemical species as one of the substrates at the surface of the enzyme electrode and the hydrogen peroxide electrode 4. The output electric current from the enzyme electrode is measured by an ammeter 6 and recorded by a recorder 7.
