Abstract: PURPOSE:To easily obtain the subject material useful for electronic material, etc., by a solid-phase polymerization comprising the irradiation of a crystal of a specific tetraacetylene molecule with light or radiation or by a two-stage solid-phase polymerization comprising the thermal polymerization of the above crystal at a temperature below its melting point and the post-polymerization of the obtained polymer. CONSTITUTION:The objective conjugated polymer material consisting of a di(polydiacetylene) of formula IV can be produced either by irradiating a crystal of the molecule of a tetraacetylene of formula I [R and R' are CH3(CH2)x (x is 0-19) or group of formula II (y is 0-19; z is 1-9)] (e.g. 15,17,19,21- hexatriacontatetrayne) with light (e.g. ultraviolet light or visible light) or radiation (e.g. X-ray or gamma-ray) or by heating the crystal at a temperature below the melting point of the crystal to obtain a polymer of formula III (n is polymerization degree) and irradiating the polymer with light (e.g. ultraviolet light or visible light) or radiation (e.g. X-ray or gamma-ray) or heating the polymer.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled material useful as material for a light wavelength converting element, etc., stable at room temperature, readily providing large single crystal, comprising p-toluenesulfonic acid 1-methyl-4-[2-(4-hydroxyphenyl) vinyl[pyridinium. CONSTITUTION:An organic material for non-linear optical use comprising p- toluenesulfonic acid 1-methyl-4-[2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)vinyl] pyridinium shown by formula I and one comprising p-toluenesulfonyl acid 1-methyl-4-[2-(4-(N,N- dimethylamino)phenyl)] vinyl pyridinium shown by formula II. The compounds shown by formula I and formula II are synthesized by condensing 1,4- dimethylbipyridinium obtained from gamma-picoline and methyl iodide with 4- hydroxybenzaldehyde and 4-(N,N-dimethylamino)benzaldehyde through dehydration and reacting the reaction products with p-toluenesulfonic acid. Large single crystal is obtained by slow evaporation method, etc.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled material capable of enlarging a SHG and having a stability at room temp. and enabling to easily growing a large monocrystal by selecting the 8 kinds of the compds. defined by the specific table from a specific ethynyl nitrobenzene derivative shown by the formula. CONSTITUTION:The titled material is composed of the ethynyl nitrobenzene derivative shown by the formula and comprises the 8 kinds of the compds. defined by the table. The prescribed derivative is prepared by reacting the corresponding halonitroiodobenzene derivative with the ethynyl derivative in a solvent and in the presence of a bispalladium II chloride catalyst. Thus, the titled material having the larger SHG than that of an urea by a few times and a stable at the room temp. and making an ease to grow a large monocrystal is obtd.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a new compound subject to solid polymerization with the substituents conjugated with diacetyl triple bond, useful for nonlinear optical materials, photosensitive materials, or polymeric semiconductor crystals. CONSTITUTION:The objective phenylbutadiyne derivative of formula I (one of the sites at Rs except R3 is substituted by NO2, the rest of Rs being each H), e.g. 6-(2-nitrophenyl)butadiyne, can be obtained by asymmetric coupling reaction between a phenylacetylene derivative of formula II and 4-bromo-2- methyl-3-butyne-2-ol of formula III followed by deacetonation of the resultant phenyldiacetylene derivative of formula IV using a potassium hydroxide catalyst.
