Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a ceramic porous form having high mechanical strength and excellent air permeability, and to provide laminar kaolinite as the raw material for the above porous form. CONSTITUTION:The objective laminar kaolinite having such structure that boehmite is laminarly crystallized on its surface can be obtained by hydrothermal treatment of a silica-alumina material with a 5-20wt% in excess aluminum compared with the theoretical composition of kaolinite. The other objective ceramic porous body having high mechanical strength and excellent air permeability can be obtained using this laminar kaolinite.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To excellently agitate a reactant in the hydrothermal reaction and to increase the reaction rate by hermetically enclosing a small-piece agitating medium in a pressurized reaction vessel, rotating and agitating the vessel. CONSTITUTION:The inner vessel 2 contg. a bottomed inner cylinder 21 charged with distilled water and a reactor is placed in the bottomed outer cylinder 11 of the outer vessel 1. A pressing member 3 is placed on an inner lid 22. The outer lid 12 screwed into a pressing member 4 is screwed into the outer cylinder 11 and bound. The head 42 of the pressing member 4 is rotated clockwise, and its tip 41 is pressed on the pressing member 3. Consequently, the inner lid 22 is pressed vertically on the inner cylinder 21 by the pressing force, the seating face 23 of the inner cylinder 21 is closely attached to the matching face 24 of the inner lid 22, and the inner vessel 2 is liquid-tightly closed. The pressurized reaction vessel 31 thus prepared is horizontally placed on a couple of rotation transmitting rods 10, kept at a constant temp. and rotated. Alumina and quartz are exemplified as the material for the small-piece agitating medium inert to the hydrothermal reaction.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a method for improving the plasticity of kaolinite particles by which the molding of the kaolinite particles is enabled without adding a binder, etc., by improving the plasticity of the kaolinite particles themselves having low plasticity. CONSTITUTION:Kaolinite particles are brought into contact with an aq. soln. contg. divalent cations and the cations are adsorbed on the surfaces of the kaolinite particles by ion exchange to increase WR value and CV value as indexes evaluating the plasticity of kaolinite particles.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce the subject mineral moldable without requiring addition of an organic additive by applying a hydrothermal treatment to a powdery two-component system mineral of silica-alumina in an acidic or neutral solution and forming a thin kaolinite film. CONSTITUTION:A powdery two-component system mineral of silica-alumina such as mullite and an acidic or neutral solution is tightly sealed in a pressure tank such as an autoclave. A hydrothermal reaction is carried out by heating to convert the surface of the powdery mineral into a clay-like material exhibiting plasticity. The particle size of the powdery mineral is not especially restricted and about 3 to 10mum is preferable. As the condition of the hydrothermal reaction, the reaction temperature is preferably 200 to 250 deg.C in the case of 7 day reaction period and the most favorable result can be obtained especially at about 230 deg.C. Further, an acidic solution is preferably used as the solution and a 0.1 N to 0.01 N hydrochloric acid solution is especially preferable. As the result of this hydrothermal treatment, a thin kaolinite film can be formed on the surface of a mineral such as mullite.
