    Abstract: The airbag restraint inflator assembly comprises a reaction can having a mounting providing an opening in a first end wall. The opening is adapted to receive and position an inflator within a cavity of the reaction can. An inflator, shorter in dimension than the reaction can, has a generally cylindrical housing with a flangeless base on a first end. The reaction can mounting member is a generally open, right circular cylindrical shaped tube formed by a circular sidewall. The sidewall terminates at one end of it with a radially extending mounting flange having an outer diameter greater than a diameter of the first end wall opening and terminating in a resilient arm on the other end of the sidewall. The mounting member is located in the reaction can first end wall with the resilient arm engaging and holding the inflator housing by biased radial compression force.

    Abstract: The gas generator assembly for a vehicular airbag includes a hollow, cylindrical filter having a longitudinal central axis and first and second ends, a cylindrical gas generant having first and second ends and retained within the filter coaxial with it and a preload seated against the first end of the gas generant to apply a compressive force. The preload comprise a metallic cup-shaped body having a sidewall seated securely within the first end of the filter and coaxial with it, and a circular base bounded by the sidewall. A metallic contact engages the first end of the gas generant. A metallic spring is intermediate the base and contact for maintaining an axial compressive force against the first end of the gas generant.
