Abstract:
This disclosure relates to performing cellular communication in unlicensed spectrum using a flexible slot structure. A cellular base station may perform a listen-before-talk procedure, and may transmit a reservation frame when the listen-before-talk procedure is successful. The reservation frame may reserve a wireless medium for a transmit opportunity. Transmission slots may be scheduled for communication with one or more wireless devices during the transmit opportunity. The transmission slots may be selected from multiple possible uplink transmission slot types and multiple possible downlink transmission slot types. Indications of the scheduled transmission slots, including indications of slot types of the scheduled transmission slots, may be provided to the wireless devices. Wireless communication may be performed between the cellular base station and the wireless devices according to the scheduled transmission slots.
Abstract:
A wireless device, such as a user equipment device (UE), and a base station are disclosed, which may communicate with more efficient use of dynamic transmit time interval durations to enable a faster and more efficient ramp up of TCP communications to a higher or maximum throughput. The UE may communicate uplink or downlink communications with the base station according to a first shorter TTI duration for a first period of time. After the first period of time, the UE may communicate uplink or downlink communications to the base station according to a second longer TTI duration. For the case of uplink communications, the UE may be configured to increase a congestion window size after each acknowledgement of an uplink communication received by the base station during the first period of time. For the case of downlink communications, the base station may be configured to increase a congestion window size after each acknowledgement of a downlink communication received by the UE during the first period of time.
Abstract:
Techniques are disclosed relating to informing a network that a UE desires packet-switched voice communication. In one embodiment, a method includes receiving first information from a UE device requesting voice communication over a packet-switched network. In this embodiment, the method further includes transmitting, in response to the first information, second information to a base station serving the UE device, wherein the second information indicates that the UE device is requesting voice communication over the packet-switched network. In this embodiment, the transmitting is performed prior to establishment of a dedicated bearer by the base station for the UE device. In this embodiment, the second information operates to configure communications between the base station and the UE device to provide a particular quality of service for the packet-switched voice communication using the dedicated bearer.
Abstract:
A wireless communication device (UE) includes a cellular processor configured to conduct wireless communications according to a first radio access technology (RAT) in a first frequency band and in a second frequency band, wherein the first RAT is a cellular RAT, the first frequency band is in an unlicensed spectrum, and the second frequency band is in a licensed spectrum. In some embodiments, the apparatus includes a wireless local area network (WLAN) processor configured to conduct wireless communications according to a second RAT in the first frequency band. In some embodiments, the cellular processor and the WLAN processor are configured to couple to a common antenna for communications in the first frequency band. In some embodiments, the cellular processor may notify the WLAN processor when it is scanning and/or when it is assigned secondary component carriers in the first frequency band. In some embodiments, the WLAN processor may notify the cellular processor when it is transmitting. In some embodiments, the WLAN processor and/or the cellular processor may perform one or more actions in response to such notifications to improve coexistence in the first frequency band.
Abstract:
Performing a circuit-switched fallback, CSFB, call with improved reliability. A request to establish a CSFB call may be received by a UE (106) that is currently in a pool overlap area. The network resource controller (172), or the base station (102), transmits information to the UE which indicates the pools in which neighboring cells are operating. The UE uses this information to select a circuit-switched cell on which to operate for the CSFB operation, wherein the selected CS cell is in the same pool area as the current pool area. This prevents the UE from inadvertently camping on a CS cell in a different pool area, which could cause call failure on some networks. The information provided by the base station may comprise a pool area id, or may comprise mapping relation information that is useable by the UE to determine the current pool area.
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods for estimating a location of a wireless device in communication with a wireless network, such as a UMTS network or an LTE/LTE-A network, based at least in part on WLAN/WPAN AP measurements and/or barometric measurements are disclosed. The wireless device responds to a location capability inquiry from the wireless network by providing a response that indicates the wireless device is configurable to estimate its location based on WLAN/WPAN AP and/or barometric measurements. The wireless network sends WLAN/WPAN AP and/or barometric reference information to the wireless device to assist in estimating its location. The wireless device measures one or more WLAN/WPAN APs, and the wireless device uses the WLAN/WPAN AP and/or barometric measurements to estimate its location. In some embodiments, GPS/GNSS information is used in conjunction with WLAN/WPAN AP and/or barometric measurements to estimate the location of the wireless device.
Abstract:
Mobile devices, base stations, and/or relay stations may implement methods for decreasing required guard bands while also minimizing Adjacent Channel Leakage Ratio, when multiple mobile devices communicate over different respective adjacent specified frequency bands. For communications over at least one specified frequency band of the different respective adjacent frequency bands, a first bandwidth of uplink communications and/or a second bandwidth of downlink communications may be adjusted to differ from each other, and/or a communications bandwidth within the specified frequency band may be adjusted to be of a first size during a first portion of a specified data transmission period and to be of a second size during a second portion of the specified data transmission period, when at least some of the communications over the specified frequency band take place at frequencies adjacent to frequencies at which at least some of the communications take place over another specified frequency band.
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to using a dedicated reference subframes in a cellular communication system. According to one embodiment, a base station may transmit reference signals in a dedicated synchronization and measurement reference subframe. Neighboring base stations may also transmit reference signals in dedicated reference subframes in a temporally coordinated (synchronized) manner. The reference signals transmitted be each base station may be orthogonal with the reference signals transmitted by each neighboring base station. The reference subframes may be transmitted periodically, and data subframes may be transmitted between reference subframes. Some or all of the data subframes may not include cell-specific reference symbols, as their function may be unnecessary given the use of the dedicated reference subframes.
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to aggregation of radio resources provided according to multiple radio interfaces. According to some embodiments, a base station may establish a radio bearer with a wireless user equipment (UE) device. The radio bearer may initially utilize a first radio interface between the base station and the UE. The base station may receive an indication to aggregate radio resources of an access point that utilizes a second radio interface for the UE. Based on the indication to aggregate radio resources for the UE, the base station may redirect at least a portion of data of the radio bearer by way of the access point to be exchanged with the UE using the second radio interface.
