Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a further improved method for reacting an organic compound, especially selectively hydrogenating a polymer having a C-C multiple bond. SOLUTION: This method for reacting an organic compound on a macroporous carrier catalyst containing a boron oxide is a method for reacting the organic compound in the presence of a catalyst containing as an active metal loaded on a carrier having macropores, at least only one kind of a transition metal of the VIII group of the Periodic Table, or together with at least one kind of a transition metal of the I or VII group of the Periodic Table in 0.01 to 30 wt.% based on the total weight of the catalyst, and as the component of the carrier, boron(III) oxide is contained in a mass ratio of 10 to 100 wt.% based on the total weight of the carrier.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sugar alcohol useful in a food industry, cosmetics, agents and an industrial field by hydrogenating a saccharide in the presence of a catalyst composed of a transition metal. SOLUTION: A saccharide (preferably glucose, mannose or the like) or a mixture of two or more of saccharides is brought into contact with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst to give a sugar alcohol or a mixture of two or more of the sugar alcohols. The catalyst comprises at least one homogeneous compound of at least one transition metal of the group VIII of the periodic table or optionally the homogeneous compound and at least one homogeneous compound of at least one transition metal of the group I or group VII of the periodic table and is deposited on a carrier on-site. Preferably 0.01-30 wt.% based on the total weight of the catalyst is supported on a carrier, 5-50% pore volume of the catalyst comprises macropores having 50-10,000 nm pore diameters, 50-95 % pore volume comprises mesopores having 2-50 nm pore diameters and the sum of the pore volume is 100%.

If the ester is dimethyl terephthalate, this excludes hydrogenation on a catalyst containing ruthenium, with or without Sub-Group I, VII or VIII metal(s), on a support with an average pore diameter (APD) of at least 50 nm and a BET surface of not more than 30 m /g, with an active metal content of 0.01-30 wt.% and a ratio of (active metal surface):(support surface) of less than 0.05, and/or on a catalyst containing 0.01-30 wt.% active metal(s) as above on a support in which 10-50 vol.% of the pores consist of macropores with a diameter of 50-10,000 nm and 50-90 vol.% consist of mesopores with a diameter of 2-50 nm.

This catalyst is characterised in that the material is treated with an alkine of formula (I): R1-CC-R , in which R represents alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, hydroxyalkyl, alkyl halide, alkoxy or alkoxyalkyl, R represents hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl, as well as with a carbonyl compound of formula (II), in which R and R represent independently from each other hydrogen, alkyl, alkyl halide, cycloalkyl or aryl. The invention also relates to catalysts obtained according to said method, and to alkinylations and aminoalkylations using said catalysts.
