Abstract: The invention relates to compositions containing propionic acid in a solid and essentially pure form, said compositions also containing at least one compound of formula (I) (M n+ )(H + ) x (CH 3 CH 2 C(O)O - ) (n+x) , wherein M n+ represents an n-valency alkali metal or alkaline earth metal cation, n being equal to 1 or 2, and x represents a number between 0.25 and 5, with the proviso that x does not represent a number between 0.75 and 1.75 when M n+ represents potassium. The invention also relates to a method for producing such compositions containing propionic acid, and to the use of such compositions as ensilage auxiliary agents, conservation agents, acidifiers, food supplements, animal feed, or animal feed additives.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the production of formic acid formates, wherein a flowing liquid (I) containing formic acid, and a flowing liquid (II) containing a metal formate, are provided. The flowing liquids (I) and (II) are guided to a rectification column such that a higher or equal guiding point for the liquid flow (II) is selected for the rectification column for the liquid flow (I). The liquid flows (I) and (II) in the rectification column are mixed by separating water via the head of the rectification column and the liquid flow is withdrawn from the rectification column, said liquid flow containing the formic acid formate. The invention is characterised in that the liquid flow is obtained as a melt containing at least 0.5 wt. % water.

Abstract: Propionic acid-containing composition (A) in solid and preferably pure form, comprises at least a metal compound (I). Abstract: Preparation of a solid sodium formate preparation comprises (i) preparing an aqueous solution, which exhibits formic acid, sodium formate and water; (ii) subjecting the aqueous solution to crystallization and separating a solid phase from mother liquor; (iii) supplying the mother liquor during the production of the aqueous solution, to a distilling device; (iv) mixing the mother liquor with a sodium-containing base to form a mixture containing sodium formate and formic acid; (v) mixing the mixture with formic acid; and (vi) removing the water by withdrawing from the distilling device. Preparation of a solid sodium formate preparation with a content of at least 35 wt.% of formic acid, comprises: (i) at increased temperature, preparing an aqueous solution, which exhibits a molar ratio of formic acid and sodium formate of more than 1.5:1 and a molar ratio of formic acid and water of at least 1.1:1; (ii) subjecting the aqueous solution to crystallization and separating a solid phase from mother liquor; (iii) supplying the mother liquor, optionally after removal of a partial quantity of the mother liquor, during the production of the aqueous solution, to a distilling device; (iv) mixing the mother liquor with a sodium-containing base to form a mixture containing sodium formate and formic acid; (v) mixing the mixture with formic acid under receipt of the aqueous solution; and (vi) removing the water that is not needed for the production of the aqueous solution, by withdrawing from the distilling device.
