    Abstract: New fungicidal mixtures contain dithianon (I) and at least one 1,2,4-triazole derivative (II) in synergistic amounts, where (II) is metconazole, epoxiconazole, fluquinconazole, tebuconazole (IIa), tetraconazole, difenconazole and/or prothioconazole (preferably metconazole, epoxiconazole or (IIa)). Independent claims are included for: (1) a fungicidal composition comprising the (I)/(II) mixture plus a solid or liquid carrier; and (2) a method for controlling harmful fungi, by applying (I) and (II) to the fungi, their habitat or plants, seeds, soil, surfaces, materials or regions to be protected. ACTIVITY : Fungicide. In tests against Botrytis cinerea in paprika seedlings, (I) at 16 ppm or (IIa) at 4 ppm gave no control, whereas a combination of 16 ppm (I) and 4 ppm (IIa) gave 59% control. MECHANISM OF ACTION : Synergist.

    Abstract: An improved process is disclosed for preparing alpha , beta -diaminoacrylnitriles having the general formula (I) R R NC(R )=C(NR R )CN, in which R stands for hydrogen, substituted or non-substituted aliphatic residues with 1 to 30 carbon atoms, cycloaliphatic residues with 3 to 8 ring members or aromatic, heteroaromatic or araliphatic residues with 7 to 12 carbon atoms; R and R are the same or different and stand for hydrogen or an aliphatic residue with 1 to 15 carbon atoms, a cycloaliphatic residue with 3 to 8 ring members or an aromatic, heterocyclic or araliphatic residue with 7 to 12 carbon atoms, or residues R and R may be bound together into a 5- or 6-membered ring that may also carry another heteroatom. In this process, component (A) is reacted with components (B), (C) and (D) in any desired order. (A) is an alpha -dicarbonyl compound having the general formula R COCHO, in which R has the above-said meaning, or a reactive derivative of said carbonyl compound. (B) is a salt of sulphurous acid, sulphur dioxide or a sulphur dioxide-releasing reactive. (C) is an amine having the general formula HNR R or an aliphatic diamine having the general formula R HN-(CH2)n-NHR , in which the alkylene chain may also bear an R substituent having, like R , the above-said meaning and n equals 2 or 3, or derivatives that are converted into amine or diamine in reaction conditions. (D) is liquid or gaseous hydrocyanic acid or a hydrocyanic acid-releasing reactive. The reaction is carried out with at least 3.5 equivalent alkali compounds per mole of component A. The most part of the alkaline compound consists of potassium compounds and at least one alkali equivalent is added as a free alkaline lye, provided that the proportion of potassium equivalents be sufficiently high for all inorganic salts to remain practically completely in solution at the end of the reaction.

    Abstract: Halogenation of cyclopropyl-methyl ketone (CPMK) is effected with at least one dihalo-triorganophosphorane of formula (R)3P(X)2 (I) at 80-130 deg C, where (I) is prepared in situ from a triorgano-phosphane oxide or sulphide of formula R)3P=A (II) and a halogenating agent. The novelty is that (II) is used in a catalytic amount. R = optionally saturated 1-20C aliphatic hydrocarbyl; or phenyl or (1-4C)alkyl-phenyl (both optionally substituted by 1 or 2 of F, Cl and NO2); X = Cl, Br or I; A = O or S. Also claimed are: (i) the halogenated product obtained by the process; and (ii) the preparation of cyclopropyl-acetylene (CPA) by treating the halogenated product as in (i) with a strong base at -33 to +250 deg C.

    Abstract: Process for halogenating cyclopropyl methyl ketone (I) comprises reacting (I) with a dihalophosphorane of formula R3PHal2 (II) at 80-200 deg C. R = 1-20C saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbyl group or a phenyl or (1-4C alkyl)phenyl group optionally substituted by 1-2 of F, Cl and/or NO2; and Hal = Cl, Br or I. Also claimed are (i) a halogenation product obtained as above; and (ii) the production of cyclopropylacetylene (III) by treating the halogenation product with a strong base, especially KOH in a glycol ether, at -33 to 250 deg C.
