Abstract: The prodn. of polyurethane (PU) foam by reaction of polyol(s) and opt. low-mol. wt. chain extenders with opt. modified polyisocyanates in the presence of catalysts, blowing agents and opt. additives etc., uses aminoalcohols of formula R1R2N-(CH2)-m-N(R5)-(CH2)n-N-(CH2)p-N(R3)R4 R1-R6 = 1-4C alkyl or 1-3C hydroxyalkyl, with at least two of these gps.= hydroxyethyl and/or hydroxypropyl; and m, n, p = 2-10). Pref at least one of the gps. R5 or R6 = hydroxyethyl or hydroxypropyl, and the alkyl gps. = methyl; at least one of the variables m, n or p is not = 2. (I) can be used alone, or in combination with other cpds. of type (I), or with dimethylaminodiglycol and/or bis-(dimethylaminoethyl) ether. ADVANTAGE - (I) have relatively high catalytic activity, so that only small amts. are required, with corresp. little effect on the properties of the foam. Flexible PU foam compsns. contg. (I) have better flow properties, longer starting times and similar demoulding times (w.r.t. compsns. contg. prior-art catalysts); the foam obtd. (flexible or rigid) has little or no odour and good mechanical properties.
