Abstract: In the production of magnetic storage disks, metal substrate disks (2) are subjected to a plurality of treatments in baths (18) for cleaning, activating and coating the disk surface. A large number of disks are treated simultaneously using a frame having one or more bars (1) on which a plurality of the substrate disks (2) are arranged through their central orifice and which are detachably fastened at their ends in retaining means (3, 7). For washing the disks after each treatment, the frame is provided with spray means (19, 20) which is arranged above the bars (1) and is detachably connected to a water supply. Conveying and lifting means move the frame to, and introduce the frame into, the treatment baths (18).

Abstract: In the prodn. of acicular Co-contg. ferromagnetic Fe oxide, (a) gamma-FeOOH seeds are produced by the acid process in a first stage from Fe(II) salt solns. by addn. of alkali and simultaneous oxidn. by introduction of air in the presence of 0.2-1.0wt.% phosphate ions w.r.t. the amt. of gamma-FeOOH end prod.; (b) these seeds are then grown to the gamma-FeOOH end prod. in a second stage at a pH of 4-5.5; and then (c) after filtering, washing and drying, this is dehydrated at 300-600 deq.C and reduced to magnetite in the presence of organic cpds. decomposing in the presence of Fe oxide, then oxidised to gamma-Fe2O3 with gas contg. O2; then (d) modified by pptn. of Fe(OH)2 and/or Co(OH)2 in alkaline suspension, filtration, drying and tempering under inert gas at 100-350 deg.C.

Abstract: 1420692 Magnetic recording tape BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 27 April 1973 [28 April 1972] 20074/73 Heading B2E A thermostable rigid base plated with a firmly adhering film of ferromagnetic metallic material containing cobalt has applied thereto a layer from a solution of at least one film-forming organic coating resin in a volatile solvent, the layer in dried and unbaked condition being not more than 3000A thick, and drying and baking being effected at 200-300‹C for 1-15 hours. Specified resins are polycarbonates, polyurethanes, acrylic polymers, polyglycidal ethers and esters cured with polyamines and polyaminoamides and phenol-amine resins. The ferromagnetic metal may be Co-P, Co-B, Co- Ni, Co-Fe-Ni alloys. Ketones, ethers and hydrocarbons are typical volatile solvents.
