Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a solid medicine and a cosmetic which release active ingredients under controlling by using a copolymer consisting of N-vinyllactam or N-vinylamine and a specific monomer as a matrix. SOLUTION: This solid medicine and cosmetic are produced by using a copolymer which consists of (A) 50-99 wt.% of at least one kind of N-vinyllactam or N-vinylamine selected from N-vinylpyrrolidone, N-vinylpiperidone, N- vinylcaprolactam, (methylated) N-vinylimidazole or N-vinylformamide and (B) 1-50 wt.% of a monomer selected from (i) a 14-30C alkyl monoethylenically unsaturated 3-8C carboxylate, (ii) the same carboxylic acid N-8-30C alkyl substituted amide, (iii) the same carboxylic acid N,N-8-30C dialkyl substituted amide, (iv) a vinyl aliphatic 8-30C carboxylate or (v) an 8-30C alkyl vinyl ether as a matrix.

SOLUTION: This thickening agent is a neutralized or partially neutralized copolymer obtained from (A) 50-99 wt.% of a monoethylene-based unsaturated carboxylic acid and (B) 1-50 wt.% of at least one comonomer selected from the group consisting of (a) esters of monoethylene-based unsaturated carboxylic acids and saturated 8-30C alcohols, (b) N-alkyl- or N,N-dialkyl-substituted carboxyamides, wherein the alkyl groups are mutually independently >=8-18C aliphatic or alicyclic alkyl groups, (c) aliphatic 8-30C carboxylic acid vinyl esters, and (d) 8-18C alkyl vinyl ethers, or a mixture of monomers each selected from the groups (a) to (d).

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a compsn. which makes the better dissolution of a water- insoluble component possible by incorporating the water-insoluble component and a copolymer formed from an N-vinylcarboxamide and a hydrophobic monomer copolymerizable therewith into the same. SOLUTION: At least one water-insoluble component which is pref. an acting substance or an auxiliary agent used for medicines or cosmetics, for plant treatments, or for nutrition industries and at least one copolymer formed from 5-99 wt.% at least one N-vinylcarboxamide represented by the formula, 1-95 wt.% at least one hydrophobic monomer copolymerizable therewith, and optionally 0-94 wt.% another copolymerizable monomer are incorporated. In the formula, R1 and R2 are each H or 1-6C alkyl. Pref. examples of the hydrophobic monomer are esters of monoethylenic unsatd. 3-8C carboxylic acids and aliph. or alicyclic 8-30C alcohols (e.g. stearyl acrylate).

SOLUTION: A copolymer comprising (A) 15-50 wt.%, preferably 20-40 wt.%, particularly preferably 25-35 wt.% N-vinylpyrrolidone, (B) 85-50 wt.%, preferably 80-60 wt.%, particularly preferably 75-65 wt.% vinyl acetate and preferably (C) 0-30 wt.% other radical-copolymerizable monomers (e.g. monoethylene-based unsaturated carboxylic acids such as acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, etc.), and having 50-200 K-value is used as a matrix for production of a solid oral medicine and cosmetic.

SOLUTION: This use is the one of copolymers comprising (a) 82-99.9 mol.% of at least one monoethylenically unsaturated a 3-8C carboxylic acid, (b) 0.1-18 mol.% of at least one monomer selected from the group of (b1 ) N-(8-30C alkyl)- substituted amides of monoethylenically unsaturated 3-8C carboxylic acids, (b2 ) N,N-(8-30C dialkyl)-substituted amides of monoethylenically unsaturated 3-8C carboxylic acids and (b3 ) 8-30C alkyl esters of monoethylenically unsaturated 3-8C carboxylic acids, and (c) 0-17.9 mol.% of at least one monomer selected from the group of (c1 ) vinyl esters of aliphatic 8-30C carboxylic acids and (c2 ) 8-30C alkylvinyl ethers, in which the mol.% data for the individual components adding up to 100%, as a solubilizer.
