Abstract: Polymers and oligomers (I) of propylene with 0-40 wt.% other 2-8C 1-alkenes are claimed, with Mn = 100-100,000, mol. wt. distribution Mw/Mn = 1-3 and one functional terminal gp. (X) per macromol. Also claimed the prodn. of (I), by reaction of the corresp. polymers and oligomers contg. one olefinic end-gp. (II) with organic cpds. contg. hetero-atoms. (I) pref. have Mn = 500-50,000 and Mw/Mn of 1.5-3 Gp. (X) contains B, N, O, Si, P, S or Hal. Pref., (II) are vinylidene-terminated polymers or oligomers obtd. by polymerisation at 0.1-100 bar and -50 to 150 deg C in the presence of a soluble catalyst system contg. a bridge metallocene complex and an alumoxane cocatalyst. Hetero-atom cpds. are, e.g. boranes, amines, amides, nitro cpds., carboxylic acids, anhydrides, epoxides, ethers, silanes, mercaptans, sulphones, F, Cl, Br, I, etc.. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are compatible with polar polymers e.g. polycarbonate, polyamide, PAN, PET and SAN and can be combined with polar polymers to give alloys or copolymers. The process is more controlled than prior-art grafting processes for the introduction of functional gps. into polypropylene. Copolymers (III) are obtd. by reaction of (I) with polar polymers. Abstract: Polymer blends (I) contain: (A) partly crystalline polymers of alk-1-enes, and (B) non-crystallisable oligomers of alk-1-ene with a mol. wt. of 100-10,000. Also claimed is a process for the prodn. of (I) by: (i) prepn. of (A) and (B) followed by co-pptn. from soln. or mechanical mixing, or by (ii) mixing (A) and (B) during their prodn. together in presence of metallocene catalyst systems.
