    Abstract: The use of an aqueous dispersion paint (A) with a pigment content of 40-200 wt.% (based on polymer component) is claimed for coating buildings or parts of buildings, where the polymer component comprises an emulsion copolymer, 0.5-30 wt.% of which is derived from polyoxyalkylene (meth)acrylate monomers (I). (A) include novel paints (A'), containing other specific monomers in addition to (I). The use of an aqueous dispersion paint (A) with a pigment content of 40-200 wt. % (based on polymer component) is claimed for coating buildings or parts of buildings, where the polymer component comprises an emulsion copolymer, 0.5-30 wt.% of which is derived from monomers of formula (I). R1 = H or Me; X = divalent polyoxyalkylene group having 1-50 oxyalkylene units; and R2 = H or 1-20C aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbyl (preferably 1-4C alkyl). An Independent claim is included for a novel aqueous dispersion paint (A') comprising a pigment and an emulsion copolymer, where the pigment content is 40-200 wt.% based on the copolymer content, the copolymer has a glass transition temperature below 30 degrees C and the copolymer comprises (wt.%) (1) 1-8C alkyl (meth)acrylates and/or vinyl aromatic compounds (40-99.5) (2) monomer (I) (0.5-30); and (3) further monomers (0-50).

    Abstract: The present invention relates to combinatorial processes for preparing an array of n aqueous polymer dispersions by emulsion polymerization and for preparing an array of m formulations of polymer dispersions, and also to the arrays themselves. The processes are conducted at n or m spatially separate locations for the n or m mixtures, respectively. To conduct the emulsion polymerization, monomers, initiator, dispersants and, if desired, further components are reacted with one another in water as the reaction medium. To prepare the formulations, aqueous polymer dispersions are mixed with other aqueous polymer dispersions and/or further components. With all processes, each of the n or m mixtures differs from every other mixture in at least one parameter in each case which may have an influence on the properties of the resultant polymer dispersions or formulations, respectively. The advantage of the invention is that by means of these processes it is possible rapidly to prepare and characterize a large number of aqueous polymer dispersions and formulations. This leads to an acceleration in the development process for the preparation of aqueous polymer dispersions and formulations having optimized properties.

    Abstract: The invention relates to combinatory methods for producing an array of n aqueous polymer dispersions by emulsion polymerization and for producing an array of m formulations of polymer dispersions, in addition to the arrays themselves. The methods are carried out at n or m spatially separated locations for the n or m formulations. To carry out the emulsion polymerization, monomers, an initiator, a dispersant and optionally addition al components are reacted with one another in water, which acts as the reaction medium. To produce the formulations, aqueous polymer dispersions are mixed with other aqueous polymer dispersions and/or additional components. In all methods, each one of the n or m formulations differs from the other formulation in at least one respective parameter, which can influence the characteristics of the polymer dispersions or formulations that are obtained . The advantage of the invention is that said method allows a large number of aqueous polymer dispersions and formulations to be produced and characterize d. This accelerates the development of aqueous polymer dispersions and formulations with optimized characteristics.
