Abstract: Use of pigment preparations containing (a) at least one finely divided pigment, (b) at least one copolymer having a molecular weight of 500 to 20,000 g/mol obtainable by free-radical polymerisation of ( alpha 1) C8- to C40-monoolefins or ( alpha 2) C8- to C40-alkyl vinyl ethers or ( alpha 3) mixtures of C8- to C40-alkyl vinyl ethers and up to 50 mol% of C8- to C40-monoolefins with ( beta ) monoethylenically unsaturated C4- to C12-dicarboxylic acids or- dicarboxylic anhydrides whose carboxyl or anhydride groups can be completely or partially reacted with ammonia, amines, alcohols, amino- or hydroxycarboxylic acids or alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxides, (c) if appropriate other auxiliaries customary in pigment preparations, for the manufacture of pastes, printing inks and paints and novel pigment preparations.

Abstract: Pigment formulation contains (a) finely-divided pigment(s) (I) (b) polyester(s) of formula (IIA) and/or (IIB), prepd. by reacting I2-hydroxystearic acid (III) with a hydroxycarboxylic acid of formula HO-X-COOH (IV); and opt. (c) an organic liquid and the usual additives. X = a divalent 2-18 C satd. or unsatd. aliphatic hydrocarbon gp., having max. 4 C atoms between the OH and carboxyl gps.; n and m = 2 or more. USE/ADVANTAGE - The formulation is used in the prodn. of printing inks or lacquers. Addn. of (II) greatly improves the coloristic, rheological and printing properties and the prints have high transparency and gloss.
