Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable precipitate formation to be diminished due to too rapid polymerization of the subject monomer during its compression by conducting the compression in the presence of a sterically hindered amine derivative. SOLUTION: An ethylene-based unsaturated monomer is compressed under a pressure of 200-5,000 bar in the absence of any polymerization initiator but in the presence of a sterically hindered amine derivative. In this case, it is preferable that 0.0001-0.1wt.%, based on the monomer, of an N-oxyl compound of e.g. the formula (R is an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, etc.) in combination with the amine derivative, the temperature during the compression is 20-140 deg.C, and an auxiliary stabilizer is used.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a pressure application operation on ethylenic unsaturated monomer more effectively than a conventional method so that sediments formed through early polymerization during pressure application are decreased by applying pressure in the absence of a polymerization initiator and in the presence of a specific nitrosyl compound. SOLUTION: Pressure is applied on an ethylenic unsaturated monomer (suitably, a mixture consisting of ethylene, propylene, butene and/or butadiene; more suitable monomer/comonomer is acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid or the like) at 200-5000 bar in the presence of a nitrosyl compound of the formula (R1 and R2 are each a 1-4C alkyl or they form a 5-6 membered unsaturated hydrocarbon ring together with carbon atom(s) bound to them; R3 is a 1-4C alky; and R4 is H or a 1-12C alkyl) and in the absence of a polymerization initiator. The final pressure is preferably 1000-4000 bar, and a pressing temperature is preferably 20-140 deg.C. The compound of the formula is used preferably in an amount of 0.00001-1 wt.% based on the amount of the monomer to be pressed.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an oxidized polyolefin wax having a narrow acid value distribution continuously in a high time and space yield by continuously reacting a polyolefin wax with oxygen or an oxygen-contg. gas in a tubular reactor at specified temp. and pressure (provided the reaction of a polyolefin obtd. with a metallocene catalyst is excluded). SOLUTION: A polyolefin wax is reacted at 140-200 deg.C under 5-200 bar. The use of air is pref. for oxidizing a polyolefin. Pref., at least two zones with temps. different from each other are established in the heating jacket of the tubular reactor, and the temp. of the preceding zone is set 5-20 deg.C higher than that of the following zone. The average dwell time is usually 0.5-20 hr. Pref., the ratio of flow rate of the oxidizing gas to the wax passing through the reactor is set at 30-500. Thus is obtd. an oxidized polyolefin wax having an acid value of 1-150.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymers in which a mixture comprised of ethylene and vinyl acetate is continuously polymerized in the presence of radical polymerization initiators and optional molecular weight modifiers in a cooled tubular reactor at a pressure ranging from 1000 to 3500 bar. The polymerization initiator is charged at the beginning and at a number of positions along the tubular reactor, and the temperature changes in the reaction mixture range no more than 20 C between the first maximum temperature and the last charging of the polymerization initiator along the tubular reactor.

Abstract: A copolymer (I) of ethylene and an alpha , beta -unsaturated carboxylic acid is prepared at 50-250 degrees C and 500-5000 bar in a stirred autoclave (l:d ratio greater than 5:1). The monomer mixture is added in at least two portions. The initial portion contains 20-90% less alpha , beta -unsaturated carboxylic acid than later additions and a peroxide polymerisation initiator or mixture of initiators with a low decomposition temperature.

Abstract: The invention relates to a catalyst preparation suitable for the (co)polymerisation of Alk-1-enes. To obtain said preparation a metallocene complex is mixed with a C3-20-Alk-1-ene in an inert solvent and the resulting mixture is reacted in a controlled manner with a compound forming metallocene ions. The mixture obtained is diluted with an inert, non-polar, essentially aliphatic solvent. In addition, the catalyst preparation is possibly applied to a particulate substrate material.
