Abstract: A micro-reactor for chemical reactions has two parallel plates (1, 2) fixed to each other. One plate (1) has a number of reaction chambers (3) with closures and seals, feed and discharge tubes (12, 13, 14). Lower plate (1) chamber (3) apertures (6) are aligned with closures (7) to the top plate (2). Each closure has one end which may be inserted separately with a seal (11) in the other plate (2). The seal is an O-ring seal which engages in a circular groove (10) in the closure free end. The feed and product discharge tubes and the process monitoring systems are axial passages within the closures. The plate (1) having the reactor chambers is secured within a precisely-fitting U-shaped frame (4). The upper plate (2) with closures is attached by screws to the frame.

Abstract: To mix two flows or homogenize an inhomogenous flow in a mixer (21), the two flows follow a serpentine path in at least two overlaid planes (7,14), where the flow cross section is continuously reduced in the flow directions in each plane. The flows are shifted continuously between the planes by connecting passages. To mix or homogenize flows, in a static mixer, the flow(s) is (are) fed into a premixing zone at a feed layer (1) and, in the flow direction, alternate between the planes by the connecting passages. The flows come together in a hollow zone at the outflow end of the static mixer. The overlaid planes are heated electrically, or the flows are heated by a fluid. The part-flows are eddied as they are transferred between the planes. The flow(s) travel(s) through two successive static mixers. The flow structure is extended by the reduction of the flow cross section. The flows are branched as they pass through the mixer. The flows are crossed over into parallel flow planes. An independent claim is included for a static mixer with overlaid flow plane layers, with a separation plane (12) between them, to mix at least two flows. The planes have flow structure configurations. Preferred Features: The separation plane has a pattern of passage openings. The flow channels run continuously in the flow direction, in serpentine paths in a mirror image when assembled with the separation plane between them. Dividing edges are shaped at the separation plane. The flow channel structures form longitudinal chambers, interconnected by passage openings, and defined by deflection edges which direct the flow(s) to the passage openings. The parallel planes are fitted together with centering units to give the correct positioning. The planes can be separated easily. The dimensions of the static mixer are set according to applications in the macroscopic or microscopic working range.
