Abstract: Flameproof polyurethane foams are prepd. from OH-gp-contg. polyethers, polyisocyanates, blowing agents, catalysts, stabilisers, and opt. further auxiliaries and additives. The OH gp-contg. polyethers, (I), contains 2 active H atoms and have mol. wt. 2000-10000 (3000-6000). At least 10 (30-80)% of OH gps. are prim. OH gps. The polyisocyanates are used as solns. contg., w.r.t. total wt., 5-40 wt. % amide- and/or acylurea gp.-contg. isocyanuate polyisocyanate, (II), in monomer is di- and/or polyisocyanates, (III), free from amide-, acylurea- and/or isocyanurate gps. (II) contain, by wt., 26 to 0.25 (5 to 0.5)% amide- and/or acylurea gps., 29 to 5 (24 to 19)% isocyanurate gps. and 40 to 20 (30-20)% free NCO gps. Foams have bulk wt. 20-60 (30-50) kg/cm3 and are partic suitable as insulator material. Substitution of urethane-and isocyanurate gp.-contg. polyisocyanates by liquid, homogenous solns. of (II) in (III), improves flameproofness of foams without reducing physical properties, e.g. breaking strength and elongation. Solns. are free from insoluble complexes, have increased NCO-functionality and lower toxicity.

Abstract: Stable, liquid, homogeneous solutions of isocyanurate-polyisocyanates containing amide and/or acylurea groups in monomeric diisocyanates and/or polyisocyanates which are free from amide, acylurea and/or isocyanurate groups, are obtained by reacting polybasic carboxylic acids with diisocyanates and/or polyisocyanates to give diisocyanates and/or polyisocyanates containing amide groups and/or acylurea groups, converting the diisocyanates and/or polyisocyanates containing amide and/or acylurea groups by trimerization and, optionally, polymerization, into isocyanurate-polyisocyanates containing amide and/or acylurea groups, and mixing the products with monomeric diisocyanates and/or polyisocyanates.
