The invention relates to finely divided starch-containing polymer dispersions, which can be obtained by the radically initiated emulsion polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers in the presence of at least one redox initiator and starch, wherein the ethylenically unsaturated monomers used are (a) 30 to 60% by weight of at least one optionally substituted styrol, (b) 1 to 60% by weight of at least one acrylic acid-C1-C12-alkyl ester and/or methacrylic acid-C1-C12-alkyl ester, (c) 0 to 10% by weight of at least one other ethylenically unsaturated copolymerizable monomer, and the starch used is (d) 15 to 40% by weight of at least one degraded starch having a molar mass Mw of 1000 to 65000 g/mol, wherein the sum (a) + (b) + (c) + (d) = 100% and relates to the total solid matter content, and wherein the polymerization is carried out in the presence of at least 0.01% by weight, relative to the monomers used, of at least one terpene-containing polymerization regulator. The invention further relates to a method for producing the finely divided starch-containing polymer dispersions by means of the emulsion polymerization of monomers (a), (b) and (c) using redox initiators in the presence of (d) degraded starch and at least 0.01% by weight, relative to the monomers used, of at least one terpene-containing polymerization regulator, and to the use of the finely divided starch-containing polymer dispersions as a sizing agent for paper, paperboard and cardboard.

A finely divided, starch-containing polymer dispersion which is obtainable by free radical emulsion polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers in the presence of at least one redox initiator and starch, wherein (a) from 0 to less than 40% by weight of at least one optionally substituted styrene, (b) from greater than 60 to 100% by weight of at least one C1-C12-alkyl acrylate and/or C1-C12-alkyl methacrylate, (c) from 0 to 10% by weight of at least one other ethylenically unsaturated copolymerizable monomer, are used as the ethylenically unsaturated monomers, the sum (a) + (b) + (c) being 100% and being based on the active monomer content and (d) from 15 to 40% by weight of at least one degraded starch which has a molar mass Mw of from 1000 to 65 000 g/mol, based on the total weight of solids content of components (a) + (b) + (c) + (d), are used as the starch, and the polymerization being carried out in the presence of at least 0.01% by weight, based on the monomers used, of at least one terpene containing chain-transfer agent, and in which the polymer dispersion optionally comprises an aluminium compound. The use of the finely divided, starch-containing polymer dispersions as sizes for paper, board and cardboard is also claimed.

Finely divided, cationic, aqueous polymer dispersion which is obtainable by emulsion polymerisation of ethylenically unsaturated monomers in an aqueous liquid containing a cationic prepolymer as a dispersant, wherein the cationic prepolymer is prepared in the presence of at least one polymerisation initiator by polymerisation of (a) from 15 to 45% by weight of at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer comprising at least one quaternary ammonium group; (b) from 5 to 80% by weight of at least one optionally substituted styrene; (c) from 0 to 50% by weight of at least one C1-12 alkyl (meth) acrylate; (d) from 0 to 10% by weight of at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer comprising an acid group; (e) from 0 to 10% by weight of at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer comprising an amine group; and (f) from 0 to 20% by weight of at least one non-ionic ethylenically unsaturated monomer differing from (b), (c) and (e), the sum of (a) + (b) + (c) + (d) + (e) + (f) being 100% by weight, in a first emulsion polymerisation in the presence of at least one non-ionic emulsifier, and thereafter, in the aqueous liquid containing the cationic prepolymer, a second emulsion polymerisation is carried out, in the presence of at least one polymerisation initiator, of a monomer mixture comprising (i) from 10 to 70% by weight of at least one of an optionally substituted styrene or (meth) acrylonitrile; (ii) from 30 to 90% by weight of at least one CMS alkyl (meth) acrylate; (iii) from 0 to 30% by weight of at least one vinyl ester of linear or branched C1-30 carboxylic acids; and (iv) from 0 to 30% by weight of at least one non-ionic ethylenically unsaturated monomer differing from (i), (ii) and (iii), the sum of (i) + (ii) + (iii) + (iv) being 100% by weight, and the first emulsion polymerisation and/or the second emulsion polymerisation is optionally carried out in the presence of from 0 to 10% by weight of at least one polymerisation regulator. Película protectora adhesiva sensible a la presión formada por una película polimérica recubierta con una composición adhesiva sensible a la presión reticulada, en donde la composición adhesiva sensible a la presión comprende al menos un polímero adhesivo sensible a la presión, formado por polimerización en emulsión de i) al menos un 60 % en peso, con respecto a la suma de los monómeros, de al menos un monómero blando que, cuando se polimeriza como homopolímero, tiene una temperatura de transición vítrea inferior a 0 °C, ii) un 0,1-5 % en peso, con respecto a la suma de los monómeros, de al menos un ácido etilénicamente insaturado o de al menos un anhídrido de ácido etilénicamente insaturado, iii) opcionalmente, otros monómeros diferentes de los puntos i) y ii), en donde la polimerización en emulsión de los monómeros se lleva a cabo en presencia de al menos un almidón sacarificado, y en donde la composición adhesiva sensible a la presión comprende al menos un agente de reticulación seleccionado entre poliisocianatos y poliaziridinas, y en donde la reacción de reticulación provocada por el agente de reticulación se termina sin que la película protectora adhesiva sensible a la presión se adhiera a un sustrato.

Una dispersión acuosa de polímero catiónico o anfotérico finamente dividido que se puede obtener por polimerización en emulsión de monómeros con insaturaciones etilénicas en presencia de un coloide protector catiónico o anfotérico, donde se sigue el siguiente procedimiento: primero preparar el coloide protector catiónico o anfotérico por polimerización de una mezcla de monómeros en presencia de por lo menos un primer iniciador de polimerización en un solvente orgánico, en un reactor presurizado a una presión de por lo menos 1720 kPa y a una temperatura de por lo menos 170°C, donde dicha mezcla de monómeros comprende por lo menos un monómero con insaturación etilénica que porta un grupo amina, para proveer una resina, luego combinar la resina, con un ácido y agua, para formar el coloide protector catiónico o anfotérico, luego de eso, llevar a cabo una polimerización en emulsión introduciendo una mezcla de monómeros en un medio acuoso que contiene dicho coloide protector catiónico o anfotérico y por lo menos un segundo iniciador de polimerización, donde dicha mezcla de monómeros comprende por lo menos un monómero insoluble en agua con insaturación etilénica.
