Abstract:
A dialysis system includes at least one dialysis fluid pump actuator, a disposable cassette including at least one pump chamber operable with the at least one pump actuator, the disposable cassette further including a plurality of fluid ports configured to be connected fluidly to a plurality of fluid containers, and a processor programmed to cause the at least one pump actuator to operate the at least one pumping chamber to selectively move effluent dialysis fluid to a drain container or to a sample container.
Abstract:
A medical fluid machine, such as a dialysis machine, includes a pump (100) that pumps a medical fluid and sterile water or other disinfecting liquid, such as ozonated water, for flushing and reconditioning the medical fluid machine. The machine may also include a heater (38) that heats the medical fluid or disinfecting solution in order to kill bacteria and other microorganisms that may contaminate the machine after use. Disinfecting the machine, and a disposable kit (50) used with the machine, may allow re-use of the disposable within a reasonable amount of time after completion of the disinfecting procedure. Dialysate treated with ultra-violet light or water with low concentrations of ozone also helps make the disposable kits suitable for resuse.
Abstract:
A portable, flexible peritoneal dialysis system is disclosed. The system includes a flexible harness, such as canvas or cloth, to mount a stiff housing with a heater for holding and heating fresh dialysis fluid. The harness includes straps or other suspending devices for holding a second, flexible housing for a drain bag for holding sent dialysis fluid. The upper portion of the system includes a hook and a load cell for suspending the remaining portions. The load cell is used to measure the weight of the apparatus. By keeping track of the weight and the changes, the quantity of fluid removed from the patient, spent dialysate, is tracked, as is fresh dialysate infused into the patient. An electronics or control portion controls heating of the fresh dialysate, and operation of pumps and valves for moving the dialysate. This portion also includes alarms and communications equipment.

Abstract:
Treatment apparatus, system and method are disclosed for treating a biological fluid, such as blood or blood components. The treatment may include but isnot limited to inactivation of pathogens in red cell concentrate. The system may include a disposable fluid circuit assembly and a reusable controller that controls flow through the fluid circuit for reconstituting, if necessary, a treating agent, combining the treating agent with a biological fluid and mixing the agent and biological fluid. An optional quenching agent may also be used.
