Abstract: A steel cord constituting a rubber article, especially a carcass and belt of a pneumatic tire, and more particularly a steel cord using a steel single wire having a tensile strength of as high as 4000-4800 N/mm and not wound on an outer circumferential surface thereof with a wrapping wire, wherein the ratio R1/R0 of the radius of curvature R0 of the spiral of each steel single wire spirally formed and obtained by untwisting a steel cord, the radius of curvature R1 of the spiral, obtained after the surface layer on the inner side of the spiral of this steel single wire has been melted and removed, is less than 1, whereby degradation of the corrosion and fatigue resistances, which may be a problem of a steel single wire of a high tensile strength, can be advantageously prevented.
