    Abstract: The present invention provides a new L-amidase from the organism Rhizobium huautlense. The invention also relates to the nucleic acids which code this enzyme and the vehicles, such as plasmids or microorganisms, containing these. A process for further improvement of these enzymes, their use and a whole cell catalyst containing the enzyme according to the invention are also disclosed.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new mutant consisting of a mutant of formic acid dehydrogenase derived from Candida boidinii, with the sulfur-contg. amino acids in the enzyme exchanged by sulfur-free amino acids, improved in stability to oxidation, and usable for e.g. the regeneration of NADH. SOLUTION: This new mutant of formic acid dehydrogenase (rec-FDH) derived from Candida boidinii and sensitive to flocculation and oxidation compared to rec-FDH and the corresponding wild-type enzyme, is such one that the sulfur- contg. amino acids in the rec-FDH have been exchanged with sulfur-free amino acids either mutually independently, individually or together, by targeted mutagenesis. The mutant is used for e.g. the regeneration of expensive NADH in the production of L-amino acids from the corresponding α-keto acids in the presence of amino acid dehydrogenase and NADH as coenzyme. The mutant is obtained by amplifying FDH gene cloned from the genomic DNA of Candida boidinii with a mutagenic primer.
