Abstract:
The present invention provides a product (1) that includes a pharmaceutical unit dosage or diagnostic form (6) that includes at least one active ingredient that is present in an amount that advantageously does not vary by more than about five percent from a predetermined target amount. In one embodiment, the unit form comprises a substrate (8), a deposit (14) that is disposed on the substrate and a cover layer (9) that overlies the deposit and is joined to the substrate by a bond that encircles that deposit, thereby encapsulating it between the substrate and cover substrates. The deposit comprises a powder, at least some of which includes the at least one active ingredient. The unit form is created via a dry powder deposition apparatus that electrostatically deposits the powder on the substrate utilizing an electrostatic chuck and charged powder delivery apparatus.
Abstract:
A charged particle (Bead) is moved from a first electrode (9) to a second electrode (10) also with the aid of a guide electrode (Guide Electrode).

Abstract:
The device is directed to an inhaler with a substrate (101) having a medicament (107) deposited thereon. The device further contains a conductive layer (100) and a dielectric layer (103).
Abstract:
This invention is an inhaler providing surface topology (202, 204) for minimizing the area of contact between the medicament (107) and the surfaces of the inhaler. The surfaces are preferably made of a material having a low surface energy, and more preferably, also having, when uncharged, no substantial van der Waals or electrostatic interaction with the medicament. Furthermore, the material is preferably substantially chemically unreactive with the medicament.
Abstract:
Provided is a method of moving a charged particle from a first position at which it is retained by a first electrode to a second position at which it is retained by a second electrode, the method comprising: applying a potential to the second electrode to attract the particle; and applying a potential to a guide electrode offset from the particle at the first position, wherein the applied potential is effective to reduce the attraction of the particle to the first position sufficiently to allow the potential applied at the second electrode to be effective to move the particle from the first position to the second position.
Abstract:
The inhaler apparatus comprises interior surfaces having contact with medicament particles of a selected size range for inhalation. The interior surfaces include an interior surface of a mouthpiece and a substrate with medicament particles deposited thereon. At least one such interior surfaces is textured having indentations or raised areas defining valleys of dimension and spacings selected to decrease the area of contact between medicament particles of a selected size range and the textured surface to reduce the adherence of the medicament particles to the textured surfaces.
