PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical surface smoothing tool. SOLUTION: An optical surface smoothing tool 10 has an entirely annular working member 12 in which a rigid support element 11 or at least a part thereof can axially deform. The support element 11 constitutes a concave annular housing 15. The working member 12 is fitted to the support element 11 through a bottom 16 of the annular housing 15 and protrudes out of the support element 11. Smoothing of a spectacle lens is one of application of the tool, and such a lens can be made of either inorganic or organic material.

A method for producing an article which is made of a transparent material and devoid of visible surface lines consists in producing a substrate which is made of a transparent material having a refractive index ns, whose at least main face is machined and polished in such a way that the Ra value thereof ranges from 0.001 to 0.1µm, but has visible surface defects in the form of thin individual scratches, in deposing, a liquid polymerisable composition of a masking coating, whose contact angle with said substrate main face is equal or less than 30° and which is formed by polymerising a masking coating having a refractive index nc such as 0.01

The polishing wheel further comprises a substrate layer (14) being made of an elastomer material affixed to the hub (12) and coaxial with the axis (26). The substrate layer (14) has an outer surface (20) having a substantially symmetrical shape with respect to the axis (26). The polishing wheel (10) further comprises a continuous cover layer (16) affixed to the outer surface (20) and coaxial with the axis (26). The continuous cover layer (16) is made of an elastomer material covering substantially entirely the outer surface (20).

Procedimiento de fabricación de una superficie de una lente oftálmica, según una prescripción dada, que comprende las etapas siguientes: a) mecanizado de la mencionada superficie por rebaje de material desplazando una herramienta de corte según una trayectoria continua en una capa exterior de superficie a conseguir, para formar surcos, estando dos surcos adyacentes espaciados por un paso constante comprendido entre 0,01 y 3 mm con el fin de obtener una superficie que presente una rugosidad media aritmética Ra comprendida entre aproximadamente 0,1 y 0,7 µm, y b) alisado de la superficie mecanizada desplazando una herramienta de alisado según una trayectoria continua formada por recorridos en una capa exterior de superficie a conseguir, estando dos recorridos adyacentes espaciados por un paso constante comprendido entre 0,2 y 3 mm, para realizar un filtrado pasa-banda de las ondulaciones de esta superficie entre una frecuencia baja correspondiente a la indicada capa exterior de superficie y una frecuencia alta correspondiente a una rugosidad de fondo, con el fin de obtener una superficie alisada que presente una rugosidad media aritmética Ra inferior a 0,1 µm.
