Abstract: Systems and methods for presenting a watch area display view in a process plant are provided. Indications of process control display elements may be presented via a user interface (8, figure 1A) of a computing device executing an operator application in an operating environment of a process plant. The process control display elements may be displayed in a first display region 410 in a display view, with each of the process control display elements corresponding to process parameters. Simultaneously with the first display region, a second display region (watch area) 420 (not occluding any process control display elements) may be presented in the display view. An indication that a user has selected one of the process control display elements in the first display region for display in the second display region may be received and in response the one or more process parameters corresponding to the selected process control display element may be displayed in the second display region (watch area) 420.

Abstract: Techniques for configuring and presenting multiple languages at a user interface executing in an operating environment of a process plant include configuring, in a configuration environment, a multi-language interface object to indicate a plurality of languages that may be presented at the user interface. The multi-language interface object includes a parameter whose value is changeable, within the operating environment, to indicate a desired language that is to be presented on the user interface. A configuration of the graphical display view that references the configured multi-language interface object is downloaded into the operating environment. Thus, during runtime, changes in the language utilized at the user interface are implemented without any additional downloads from or communications with the configuration environment. Independently selectable user controls may be provided to independently control the language utilized by fixtures of the user interface and the language in which graphical display view content is presented.

Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for configuring layouts and display view hierarchies and presenting display views in an operating environment of a process plant according to the layouts and display view hierarchies which include providing graphical user controls at a graphical display configuration application for defining a layout. The layouts indicate a manner which divide one or several display screens into one or several display regions, where each display region presents a display view that includes indications of process control elements. The graphical display configuration application also includes graphical user controls for defining a display view hierarchy of the display views by assigning levels of detail to the display views and designating some of the display views as subviews of other display views. An operator application obtains the defined layout and display view hierarchy and presents the display views at an operator workstation according to the obtained layout and/or display view hierarchy.

A graphical user control is included for selecting 754 one of a plurality of layouts in which display views depicting control elements of an operating environment of the process plant are presented in an operator application. The operator application is then implemented in the operating environment of the process plant. Each of the plurality of layouts divides one or more user interfaces into one or more display regions. A selection 756 of one of the plurality of layouts is received via the graphical user control; and the selected layout and a plurality of display views downloaded into a user interface device for execution in the operating environment of the process plant 760. Display view types may include an alarm banner, parameter history and process sections. Also described is configuring an operator display navigation hierarchy in a process plant, allowing operators to navigate between various levels of detail of information display.

An instantiated flexible graphic element object may be a display view or may be another graphic element included on a display view. A graphic element object may be linked to and/or derived from another graphic element object, and changes to a particular graphic element object may be propagated to its derivations, e.g., according to a distribution policy. Changes to definitions corresponding to a particular graphic element object (e.g., to the definition of a graphic element attribute such as a shape, animation, event handler or property) may be overridden or modified in another object derived from the particular graphic element object. The modified derived object may be renamed and saved separately from the particular graphic element object.
