    Abstract: The prodn. of composite membranes comprises spreading a soln. of a polymer (I) in a volatile solvent on water. Allowing the solvent to evaporate, crosslinking the polymer and transferring the film obtd. to a supporting membrane. Also claimed is a composite membrane with polymer layer(s) on a porous base membrane, obtd. by this process. (I) is a polysiloxane which is pref. crosslinked via OH gps. on the polymer, with the aid of a bi-, tri- or tetra-functional silane with hydrolysable SiO- gps. as crosslinker (II), pref. triacetoxy-methyl-silane (TACMS), in the presence of a catalyst, pref. a tin salt. Alternatively, (I) may be a polymer contg. olefinic double bonds, which is crosslinked by irradiation. Pref. polymer layer is a protective layer of polysiloxane, crosslinked via OH gps. to a structure contg. units of formula Si(O-)4, R-Si(O-)3 or RR Si(O-)2 (with R, R = alkyl, phenyl or vinyl), or a silicone which is crosslinked by irradiation.

    Abstract: For the continuous production of an ultra-thin, ordered layer of amphiphilic molecules on the surface of a polar liquid, an aligned flow of the polar liquid is generated in a channel, which polar liquid contains the amphiphilic molecules, dissolved or undissolved, on the surface in spread form. In the channel, a channel section with relatively high flow rate at the surface is provided, which section has a ramp which is arranged on the channel bottom and over which the polar liquid flows. Following this there is a channel section with a relatively low flow rate at the surface, in which channel section the flow is dammed at an obstruction with the liquid level constant over time, so that an ultra-thin, ordered layer of amphiphilic molecules continuously forms, as a result of flow compression, at the polar liquid/air phase boundary in these channel sections. The ramp over which the liquid flows is arranged so as to be movable.

    Abstract: A composite membrane comprises a porous base membrane (A) and a fluorine-contg. perm-selective layer (C) 10-500 nm thick consisting of a copolymer of: (a) 10-80 mole% units of a vinyl ester of formula (I); (b1) 5-40 mole% vinyl alcohol units of formula (II) or (b2) 5-50 mole% units of formula (III); and (c) at least 10 mole% fluoro-olefin, with the OH gp.-contg. chains crosslinked with one another. In the formula, R1-R3 = H, alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl, with a total of 5-30 C atoms over all 3 gps.; R4 = OH, opt. with up to 10% of the gps. R4 replaced by -OCOR5 (with R5 = Me, Et or Pr); R6 = 1-6C linear or branched alkylene. Also claimed is a process for the prodn. of this membrane, by dissolving the above terpolymer in a solvent, mixing with a polyfunctional isocyanate, spreading the soln. on water, evaporating the solvent and transferring the layer (C) thus obtd. to a base membrane (A). Also claimed is a membrane as described above in which the copolymer in layer (C) is uncrosslinked. Preferably, R1-R3 = alkyl or cycloalkyl with a total of 7-9 C atoms, pref. with at least one of these gps. = Me; R6 = 1,4-butylene.
