Abstract: Aromatic olefins of the formula (I) in which R -R denote hydrogen, alkyl(C1-C8), alkoxy(C1-C5), phenyl, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, -OH, -NO2, -CN, -CHO, -CO(alkyl)(C1-C4), -CO phenyl, - COO alkyl(C1-C4), -OCO alkyl(C1-C4), -NHCO alkyl(C1-C4), -CF3, - NH2, -NH alkyl(C1-C4) or -N(alkyl(C1-C4))2 and R denotes hydrogen, alkyl(C1-C8), phenyl, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, -OH, -NO2, - CN, -CHO or -OCO alkyl(C1-C4), X denotes, inter alia, alkenyl (C2-C12) or cycloalkenyl(C4-C8) or the group in which R and R independently of one another are hydrogen or methyl, and Y denotes -phenyl, -CN, -COOH, -COO alkyl(C1-C12), - COO phenyl, - CON(alkyl(C1-C12))2, -CONH2, -CON(phenyl)2, -CO alkyl(C1-C12), -CO phenyl, -O alkyl(C1-C12) or - O phenyl or represents the radical in which R -R have the abovementioned meanings, are prepared by reacting an aryldiazonium salt of the formula (2) in which R -R have the meanings mentioned and Z represents the equivalent of an anion of an acid of pKa less than 7, with an olefin of the formula (3> HX (3> in which X has the meaning mentioned, in the presence of catalytic amounts of a heterogeneous palladium catalyst in an organic solvent at temperatures from -20@C to 150@C.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of aromatic amines by reducing the corresponding nitro compound with phosphorous acid in the presence of a heterogeneous palladium catalyst is characterised in that a phosphorous acid is employed which can be obtained as a by-product in the preparation of organic acid chlorides from organic acids and phosphorus trichloride. The process according to the invention allows aromatic amines to be prepared economically, in high yield, under mild conditions and in a chemoselective fashion. The process is also advantageous from the ecological point of view since it employs a waste material whose incineration or decontamination would involve high energy consumption.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing polycarboxylic acids and their derivatives, the polycarboxylic acids prepared containing at least three carboxyl groups, and comprises the following steps: (A) introducing one or more organic compounds, which do not contain aromatic carbon-carbon (C-C) double bonds, into water, (B) ozonolysis of the organic compounds in water by passing in an ozone-containing carrier gas, (C) addition of aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution in order to work up the ozonolysis products formed in step (B) by oxidation, characterised in that the organic compound(s) is (are) introduced, in step (A), into water having a pH of 7 or less than 7, and in that the addition of hydrogen peroxide in step (C) in water is effected without addition of an organic solvent.
