Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a test strip with a sample-receiving chamber having a novel flared portion that terminates, in a sample-receiving opening. SOLUTION: The method for producing a test strip includes (a) a process which prepares a base substrate, a pitch layer and a cover layer; (b) a process which has an elongated section and a spherical section to form a space extending into the pitch layer; (c) a process which laminates a space layer on the base substrate used as the base and laminates the cover layer on the pitch layer to form a test strip precursor section; and (d) a cutting of a part of the precursor section, to produce the test strip, where a process is included, such that the cutting traverses a spherical section of the space formed at the process (b) to form a sample receiving edge of the test strip and the space demarcates the sample-receiving chamber which has an entrance section terminating within the sample receiving opening at the sample-receiving terminal edge of the test strip. Abstract: A method of determining dose sufficiency related parameters in a test strip for performing a measurement on a biological fluid comprising: a capillary fill chamber extending a length along the test strip from an intake opening to a terminus, a reagent disposed in the capillary fill chamber between the opening and the terminus, the reagent defining a measurement zone, and at least two dose sufficiency electrodes defining a gap there between and in operative with the capillary fill, chamber, the electrodes located between the measurement zone and the terminus; applying the biological fluid to the opening, whereby the fluid flows from the opening towards the terminus; applying an AC test signal to a first one of the electrodes; determining the presence or absence of a response above a predetermined threshold at the second one of the electrodes, the response indicating that the fluid has occupied substantially all of the measurement zone.

Abstract: An electrochemical biosensor (210) with electrode elements (274, 276) that possess smooth, high-quality edges (281, 283, 285, 287) with an edge definition better than 6~m. These smooth edges define gaps between electrode s, electrode traces and contact pads. Due to the remarkable edge smoothness achieved, the gaps can be quite small, which provides marked advantages in terms of test accuracy, speed and the number of different functionalities th at can be packed into a single biosensor. Further, the present application provides a biosensor production method in which entire electrode patterns fo r the inventive biosensors can be formed all at one, in nanoseconds - without regard to the complexity of the electrode patterns or the amount of conducti ve material that must be ablated to form them.

Abstract: A method of performing a measurement on a biological fluid or of indicating acceptable fill time of biological fluid in a test strip comprising providing a biological fluid test strip including a capillary fill chamber extending a length along the test strip from an intake opening to a terminus, a first pair of electrodes in operative communication with the chamber, and a second pair of electrodes in operative communication with the chamber; dosing the test strip with a biological fluid effective to cause the biological fluid to flow from the intake opening toward the terminus; for the performing of the measurement, a first test signal is applied to one of the first pair of electrodes; a first response to the first test signal is measured at the other of the first pair of electrodes; the first pair of electrodes is maintained in an inoperative state upon measuring the first response; a second test signal is applied to one of the second pair of electrodes while the first pair of electrodes is in said inoperative state; a second response to the second test signal is measured at the other of the second pair of electrodes; and a measurement is performed upon the biological fluid after measuring the second response; for indicating acceptable fill time of the biological fluid in the test strip; biological fluid is flowed from the opening toward the terminus; a first determination is made when the biological fluid contacts the first electrodes; a second determination is made when the biological fluid contacts the second electrodes; a fill time value is determined based upon the first determining and the second determining; and an error condition is indicated if the fill time value is greater than a predetermined value, and a measurement is performed upon the biological fluid if the fill time value is less than a predetermined value; a suitable test strip of the invention for performing a measurement on a biological fluid comprises a capillary fill chamber extending a length along the test strip from an opening to a terminus; at least two measurement electrodes in operative communication with the chamber, and at least two dose sufficiency electrodes in operative communication with the chamber; wherein the dose sufficiency electrodes have first edges substantially parallel to the length of the capillary chamber and second edges substantially perpendicular to the length of the capillary fill chamber, the first edges being of greater length than the second edges.
