    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a device by forming reference point members for positioning a first head gimbals assembly on a first surface and positioning a second head gimbals assembly on a second surface respectively on the first surface and second surface. SOLUTION: The upper head gimbals assembly(HGA) 49A includes an arm member 51A, a suspension load beam 53A and an integral type wiring plate 54A. A center line CL1 is extended along the longitudinal direction of a head stack assembly and an opening 55 aligned with its center is formed at a carriage 48. The first reference pins 57A and 58A and the opening 55 are formed on the carriage 48 in such a manner that the opening 55 through which a pivot cartridge 42 passes is arranged between the first reference pin 57A and the second reference pin 58A. The line 60 passing the first and second first reference pins 57A and 58A is inclined by an angle α1 from the center line CL1 of the head stack assembly.

    Abstract: A disk file is described with substantially reduced head-disk spacing and corresponding improvement in recording performance which uses a disk coated with a film of conventional high viscosity lubricant, a lubricant reservoir for replenishing the lubricant on the disk over the life of the file, and a transducer carrier with feet which ski on the high viscosity liquid film. The file does not include any means for recirculating the lubricant since the lubricant spins off the disk at a relatively low rate due to its high viscosity. The lubricant reservoir contains a very small amount of lubricant and thus may be maintained inside the substantially sealed disk file. In one embodiment of the invention, the sealed disk file is essentially evacuated. The operation of the disk file in a near vacuum environment is possible because, unlike conventional disk files, air is not required to support an air-bearing head-disk interface and the high vapor pressure of the relatively high molecular weight lubricant prevents its evaporation.

    Abstract: A RAMP STRUCTURE THAT IS DESIGNED TO REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF THERMAL EXPANSION INDUCED MISALIGNMENT (CHANGES IN RAMP-DISK SPACING) BETWEEN LOAD/UNLOAD RAMPS AND DATA STORAGE DISKS OF A DATA STORAGE DEVICE. THE RAMP STRUCTURE HAS A RIGID SUPPORT STRUCTURE AND RAMP UNITS ATTACHED TO THE RIGID SUPPORT STRUCTURE. THE RAMP UNITS ARE MADE OF PLASTIC THAT IS PARTICULARLY SUITED FOR USE AS LOAD/UNLOAD RAMPS.THE RAMPS ARE MACHANICALLY CONNECTED ONLY BY MEANS OF BEING ATTACHED TO THE RIGID SUPPORT STRUCTURE. THE DATA STORAGE DISKS ARE ATTACHED TO A SPINDLE. THE RIGID SUPPORT STRUCTURE IS MADE OF A MATERIAL THAT HAS A THERMAL EXPANSION COEFFICIENT THAT IS EQUAL TO THE THERMAL EXPANSION COEFFICIENT OF THE SPINDLE AND ANY OTHER PARTS TO WHICH THE DISKS ARE ATTACHED. AS A TEMPERATURE CHANGE CAUSES THE SPINDLE TO EXPAND AND THE SPACING BETWEEN DISKS TO CHANGE, THE RIGID SUPPORT STRUCTURE EXPANDS AT THE SAME RATE, THEREBY MAINTAINING ALIGNMENT BETWEEN THE RAMPS AND THE DISKS.     Abstract: A tape reel brake (207) which is mounted in a well (215) in the top of a tape reel hub. The brake (207) is mounted to be compliantly biased away from the base of the well (215). The hub and brake (207) are seated in the tape cartridge (10) such that teeth (239) on the periphery of the brake (207) are biased against the opposite inside surface (14) of the cartridge housing about the periphery of an opening (20) therein. The biasing of the brake (207) against the opposite inside surface (14) both prevents the rotation of the reel (200) and shields out dust when the tape cartridge (10) is removed from a tape drive. To rotate the reel (200), a tape drive clutch enters the opening (20) in the opposite inside surface and depresses the brake (207) into the well (215) to mate with a smaller diameter portion (220) of the hub.
