Abstract: A color image display apparatus includes an image memory comprising a plurality of memory planes, each corresponding to a specific color. The memory planes are simultaneously addressed by a common address from a CPU so as to either write image data on data busses respectively connected thereto or read image data out to these data busses. The apparatus also includes a read/write circuit comprising means for distributing the image data to be written in the image memory to the data bus of each memory plane, first selecting means for selecting one or more memory planes in which the image data are to be written, a plurality of read registers corresponding to the respective memory planes, and second selecting means for selecting one or more read registers whose contents are to be outputted to the CPU. In this apparatus, the write operation is performed in only a selected memory plane or planes while the read operation is performed in all of the memory planes simultaneously.

The contents of a read register or registers among them that are selected by second selecting means are outputted to the CPU.

Abstract: The present invention provides means for increasing the rate at which run length records are decoded and the decoded run length codes are written into a bit map memory of a data processing system. At the time when decoded data is written into the bit map memory, a predetermined code in a flow of run length code data causes the address point in the bit map memory at which the data is to be written to be moved by a predetermined range, the data within the range skipped by the address point remaining unchanged. By this technique the number of write operations to the bit map memory is decreased.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve the data writing speed to a bit map memory at the time of decoding a run length code by reducing the data writing frequency to the bit map memory by providing a skip entry. CONSTITUTION: An external storage device 8, such as the CD-ROM, etc., is connected to a CPU 2 through a system bus 4 and an SCSI interface 6. A system memory 10 is connected to the bus and, in addition, a bit map memory 14 and a display device 16 are also connected to the bus 4 through a video controller 12. The storage device 8 stores data for display expressed in accordance with a run length code. After the CPU 2 reads the run length code data stored in the storage device 8 and holds the data in the memory 10, a video controller 12 decodes the data and writes the decoded data in a memory 14. The controller 12 reads out the data from the memory 14 and transfers the data to the display device 16 after converting the data into video signals. Therefore, the data writing speed to the memory 14 can be improved by reducing the data writing frequency to the memory 14.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To segment an optional partial image at high speed by utilizing a raster arithmetic function provided in a graphic display system. CONSTITUTION: An external shape which defines the partial image to be segmented from an original image which is stored in the storage area 10A of an APA memory 10 is plotted through the use of an external shape plotting device 121 and a dot pattern 11 expressing the plotted external shape is written in a work storage area 10B. Then, under the control of a controller 26, reading of the dot pattern 11 from the work storage area 10B of the APA memory 10 to a mask data generator 14 is executed. Mask data which set the area surrounded by the external shape dot pattern 11 to a non-mask state and the others a mask state. Then, unmasked image data are written in a transfer destination storage area 10C. Thus, the optional partial image is segmented from the original image at high speed.
