    Abstract: To efficiently display information for an object two-dimensionally, a two-dimensional pattern 50 is displayed in a two-dimensional tag. The pattern comprises a first region 52 consisting of a locational reference region 60 that is square and located in the center of the first region 52 for identifying the location and an identification region 62 that surrounds the locational reference region 60 and is a single data cell, a second region 54 in which a black pattern and a white pattern appear alternately for identifying the starting location for reading information, and a third region 56 for displaying coded information about the object. Detection of the square region in the first region 52 allows detection of the location of the two-dimensional tag in which the two-dimensional pattern 50 is displayed, while detection of the data cell of the second region 54 in which black and white appear alternately allows detection and correction of the location of the two-dimensional tag. This constitution enables effective use of the outer circumference in which much information can be displayed.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To safely and efficiently guide travel of a mobile robot based on environments obtained by plural different sensors. CONSTITUTION: A surface form of a subject is interpreted by a sonar interpretation part 28 using sonar data as distance information to the subject. The surface form of the subject is interpreted by a stereo interpretation part 30 using stereo data of three-dimensional information based on video signals from a stereo camera 12. A hypothesis generating part 32 generates a hypothesis for the form of the subject using an interpretation without geometrically having inconsistency based on an interpretation obtained from sensors, and it time-serially collates sensor data corresponding to the surface form of the hypothesis with actual sensor data using a table deciding priority to be put between the sonar data and stereo camera data based on the hypothesis to test the hypothesis. For movement of a mobile robot, the mobile robot is guided for avoiding action referring to a traveling passage and in accordance with the hypothesis related to current environments.

    Abstract: DEVICE FOR MOVING A MOBILE ROBOT To run and move a mobile robot safely and effectively in an environment obtained from a plurality of different sensors. Sonar data given as distance information for an object is used to interpret the surface configuration of an object at a sonar interpretation section. Three-dimensional information about stereo data based on image signals from stereo cameras is used to interpret the surface configuration of an object at a stereo interpretation section. At a hypothesis generation section, a geometrically consistent interpretation is used taken from interpretations obtained from each sensor to generate a hypothesis giving the configuration of an object. A table is used to determine which data is assigned priority, sonar or stereo, to check sensor data corresponding to the surface configuration of the hypothesis against actual sensor data with the passage of time to verify the hypothesis. The mobile robot moves to avoid an obstacle, or its movement is directed, in accordance with the hypothesis with respect to the current environment by referencing the run route.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide highly efficient data compression with simple conversion by dividing an image into plural picture element areas, obtaining the luminance values of the respective picture element areas and the parameter of a color, merging the plural picture element areas and generating a primary block candidate. SOLUTION: Digital picture data is inputted to an image input means 11 and is divided into the plural picture element areas by a parameter making means 12. The luminance values and the parameter of the color are obtained on the respective picture element areas. A generation/classification means 13 merges the plural picture element areas and generates the primary block candidate and it is classified to one of the plural patterns. A linear approximation conversion part 14 groups the primary block candidate where the luminance value of the picture element area and the parameter of the color can linearly be approximated/converted as a primary block among the primary block candidates belonging to the same classification and a conversion coefficient is expressed by the parameter. Then, a secondary block is grouped and a multidimensional block parameter is finally obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To easily detect the speed of a vehicle traveling within a specific region by projecting the brightness information of a shot image on the center line of a vehicle, obtaining the total, and converting one-dimensional information. CONSTITUTION: A camera 1 shoots the image for a specific region at each time T. The time T is obtained by determining, for example, the distance between points A and B and the maximum speed which can be detected of a driving vehicle. The shot image is sent to a projection part 13 via a path 19. A projection part 13 projects the brightness information of each picture element to the axis in a predetermined advancing direction of the vehicle and accumulates it. Then, the accumulated information is stored at a traveling detection part 15 via a path 21 as the one-dimensional projection information of the number of picture elements corresponding to the length of AB. The traveling detection part 15 writes the inputted one-dimensional projection information into a buffer 17 and detects the speed of the vehicle which travels within a specific region using the stored one-dimensional projection information.
