Abstract: Eine Vorrichtung gemäß einer Ausführungsform enthält eine Wandler-Struktur mit: einer unteren Abschirmung, in deren oberer Oberfläche sich Ausnehmungen befinden; einer oberen Abschirmung, die über der unteren Abschirmung gebildet ist; einem Sensor, bei dem ein Stromfluss senkrecht zur Ebene erfolgt, zwischen der oberen und der unteren Abschirmung, wobei die Ausnehmungen an gegenüberliegenden Seiten des Sensors ausgebildet sind; und einer ersten isolierenden Schicht in den Ausnehmungen in der oberen Oberfläche der unteren Abschirmung. Eine Vorrichtung gemäß einer weiteren Ausführungsform enthält eine Wandler-Struktur mit: einer unteren Abschirmung; einer oberen Abschirmung, die über der unteren Abschirmung gebildet ist, wobei die obere Abschirmung in ihrer unteren Oberfläche Ausnehmungen hat; einem Sensor, bei dem ein Stromfluss senkrecht zur Ebene erfolgt, zwischen der oberen und der unteren Abschirmung, wobei die Ausnehmungen an gegenüberliegenden Seiten des Sensors positioniert sind; und einer ersten isolierenden Schicht in der unteren Oberfläche der oben Abschirmung.

The integral transducer/suspension assembly can be adapted for either flying above the recording media or for use in continuous contact with the recording media. The air bearing surface is formed on the lower surface of a wear pad. The fabrication of the transducer/suspension assembly is adapted to be performed at the wafer level.

Abstract: A magnetoresistive read sensor incorporates a multilayer sensing element formed of one or more magnetoresistive elements in a planar array, each magnetoresistive element having a multilayer structure of at least two ferromagnetic layers separated by a nonmagnetic layer. The ferromagnetic layers are coupled antiferromagnetically by magnetostatic coupling at opposing edges of the ferromagnetic layers. A bias layer separated from the magnetoresistive sensing element by a spacer layer provides a magnetic field to bias the magnetoresistive sensing element at a desired non-signal point for linear response. The magnetoresistive sensing element is formed by alternatively depositing layers of ferromagnetic material and layers of nonmagnetic material on a substrate and then patterning the resulting structure using photolithographic techniques to provide a planar array of magnetoresistive elements. A conductive layer is deposited over the array filling in the spaces separating the magnetoresistive elements to provide electrical conductivity between the elements in the plane of the structure.
