Abstract: A fluid container particularly useful in a centrifuge system for separating the various fractions in blood. The container comprises two circular sheets of flexible material, having central openings therein. The outer peripheral edges are sealed together, as well as an annular portion extending outwardly from the central opening. A radial arcuate portion is sealed off, thereby providing an interrupted or discontinuous annular chamber. At one end of the interrupted annular chamber, an inlet tube is provided, extending outwardly from the central opening and communicating with one end of the interrupted annular chamber. At the other end of the interrupted annular chamber, there is provided a radially enlarged portion, which acts as a collection chamber for the various portions of the fluid separated by centrifugal force. The various portions, or fractions, will exist at different radial distances from the center of the bag. A plurality of outlet tubes extend radially outward from the center of the bag to open within the collection chamber at different radial distances. Through these outlet tubes, selected separated portions of the fluid are withdrawn from the bag.

Abstract: 1374050 Centrifuge container INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 29 Dec 1972 [28 Jan 1972] 60155/72 Heading B2P A fluid container, e.g. for washing and centrifuging blood, is made of flexible material and comprises an annular outer portion forming a toroid when filled, a central hub portion 11 connected to the portion by a plurality of radial channels 7, and an inlet/ outlet tubing connector (not shown) in the central hub portion. The container is formed from two circular pieces 3a, 3b of P.V.C. which are sealed together at their periphery, e.g. by application of heat and pressure and also at sector-shaped areas 5 to form the channels 7. Openings 9 are provided through the areas 5 and in operation fit over projections on a centrifuge rotor to anchor the container during rotation. Fluid may be supplied to, or withdrawn from, the container during centrifuging through the hub portion by way of the tubing connector which is provided with a rotating seal. An outlet tube 15 having inner and outer caps 17, 19 is provided to extract processed blood after centrifuging, while the bag is suspended by a split portion 21, by removing the cap 19 and thrusting a cannula of a tubing set into the tube 15 and forcing off the cap 17. A sampling tube 25 may be provided with one end attached to the periphery of the bag and the other end sealed.

Abstract: Apparatus for processing blood, and particularly for washing blood cells, including a centrifuge head in which is arranged a flexible blood container connected by a rotating seal to tubing which permits the entrance and exit of wash liquid and supernatant. The flow of liquid in the tubing is controlled by valve arrangements which are operable to permit the entrance of wash liquid and removal of supernatant liquid. The flexible container fits over a flexible membrane also arranged inside the centrifuge head about a solid central core. The volume defined by this membrane and the core communicates via a passage in the core with a fluid reservoir by means of a control pump which allows fluid to enter and exit from the volume defined by the membrane. During operation the unwashed blood may be entered into the container or blood bag before or after the bag is placed in the centrifuge. The centrifuge is spun until cells have settled against the outside wall at which time the valve arrangements and the control pump are activated such that fluid is pumped into the centrifuge under the volume defined by the membrane thereby forcing a supernatant to flow out to a collect container. The centrifuge is then stopped and the wash solution enters the blood container through another valve arrangement, thereby allowing the removal of fluid from the volume inside the flexible membrane. Removal of the wash liquid is accomplished by the same process of removal as the removal of supernatant previously described. Provisions are made for electrical control of all the operations including an agitate operation in which the centrifuge is spun in alternate directions for only a few revolutions or goes through alternate accelerate-decelerate cycles while rotating in the same direction to thereby agitate the material in the blood bag or flexible container during the time that a wash solution is entering. The circuit arrangements are such that a high degree of flexibility in the programming of the various operations can be obtained.

Abstract: The user of a Web browser often requires assistance by the representatives (or agents) of the company which owns the Web page. A real time voice and/or image link between the user's computer and an agent's computer is achieved by downloading an executable program code (eg. JAVA* small Greek phi *) onto the user's computer. When the user initiates the execution of the program code, the user's computer, under control of the program code, retrieves real time connection data from the user's computer and sends it to the agent's computer. The agent can then initiate a real time voice or image link with the user using the real time connection data. This saves the user having to manually enter a contact name, address or telephone number.

Abstract: Most present day CRT alphanumeric displays have a fixed screen layout. Here additional alternative screen layouts e.g. split screen layout are provided by hardware with operator selection. A raster scanned CRT display is described having a refresh buffer in which alphanumeric data to be displayed is stored in a first sequence of addresses. When the refresh buffer is addressed by the first sequence of addresses a first screen layout results. This will normally be a "full screen" layout. A translation store (ROS or RAM) provides a modified sequence of translated addresses when addressed by the first sequence of addresses. The refresh buffer is selectively addressed by the modified sequence of translated addresses to display the data in a second screen layout. Each alternative screen layout requires an associated sequence of translated addresses to determine where the data should be displayed on the screen.
