    Abstract: In order to write a servo pattern on each of a plurality of record disks (18, 62) in a data storage device, first and second base patterns (51, 52) are first written on one (18) of the disks. The first base pattern (51) comprises a series of portions spaced along one radius of the disk, an individual one of the portions being situated at each track centre. The second base pattern (52) comprises a set of pattern portions, an individual one of the portions lying substantially continuously over each radius of a plurality of radii defining the positions of servo sectors. A sector servo pattern is then written on each of the record surfaces of the disks (18, 62) under control provided by detection of the base patterns (51, 52) on the one disk (18). The latter operation of writing the sector servo patterns on the disks need not be performed in a clean room.

    Abstract: The present disclosure teaches a method of writing servo patterns for increased productivity. The process for writing servo patterns is divided into a pre-operation carried out before disks are installed into a disk device (fixed to the spindle shaft) and a post-operation that is carried out after the installation. In the pre-operation, patterns written on the recording surface of the disk are two base patterns, namely, (a) a first base pattern arranged on each track center along one radial direction of the disk and (b) a second base pattern arranged along the radial direction at each position corresponding to the position of the sector in a substantially continuous fashion. Then, the disks are assembled or installed into the disk device together with blank disks. In the post-operation, the servo patterns are written based on the first and second base patterns. Here, the expression "substantially continuous fashion" also includes the case where the number of discontinuous portions is smaller than that of the first base pattern even if some discontinuous portions are present in the base pattern, besides the case where the base pattern is completely continuous along the radial direction.     Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration in performance in reading the data in alternate sectors. SOLUTION: It is assumed that a write request of data (a) is made to a sector A, but since the sector A is a defective sector, the data is written into the alternate sector A' of an alternate sector region X. Next, when the write request for data (b) is made to a sector B, the alternate sector B' succeeding to the alternate sector A is subjected to reassignment. The defective sector C to which the write request for data (c) is made is similarly reassigned to the alternate sector C'. Accordingly, the continuous data (a), (b) and (c) are eventually written into the continuos sectors A', B' and C' within the same alternate sector X.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a substrate for liquid crystal panel formation, which has a small number of substrate cutting positions to extend the margin without changing the size or a transparent substrate and is easily cut to improve the yield and can extend a picture area, and its production method. CONSTITUTION: With respect to a substrate 10 for liquid crystal panel formation, a panel forming area 14, etc., are set on a glass substrate 12. The glass substrate 12 and a pattern on a wiring TAB area 22, etc., provided in the panel forming area 14, etc., are geometrically symmetrical as a whole with respect to a center point X. Therefore, they are merely cut along a cut line R1 to be divided into two same array substrates 10A and 10B, and there are not conventional cut-away parts to secure a large margin (c). Consequently, cutting is easy to improve the yield, and the picture area of the panel forming area 14, etc., can be made large.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To enable a servo pattern to be efficiently written in by assembling a disk, in which a first and a second base patterns are written in, in a disk device together with a raw disk, and writing in a servo pattern on the basis of these base patterns. CONSTITUTION: On the recording face of a disk 18, a first base pattern 51 is written in which is arranged along the radius direction of the disk 18 and at a center space corresponding to the track center space, as is a second base pattern 52 which is essentially continuous along the radius direction for each position corresponding to a sector position. Then, the disk 18 is assembled in the disk device together with a raw disk 62, with a servo pattern 3 written in on the basis of the first and the second base patterns 51, 52. Consequently, even with an eccentric error generated in fixing the disk 18 on the spindle shaft, the head for the use of a poststage operation is capable of always passing on the second base pattern 52 during the rotation of the disk 18. Thus, it is possible to efficiently write in the servo pattern 3.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To process a hybrid control system including a low-pass filter(LPF) with a current hardware architecture of an HDD(hard disk drive) without using a state estimating device. SOLUTION: This actuator controller is provided with an actuator 10, a voice coil motor(VCM) driving circuit 11, an ADC 12 converting a position signal from the actuator 10 into a digital signal, a microprocessor(MPU) 13 generating a control signal to the actuator 10 in responce to the position signal converted into the digital signal, a DAC 14 converting the control signal into an analog signal and an LPC 15 connected in between the DAC 14 and the VCM driving circuit 11. Here the MPU 13 compensates a phase delay due to the inserting of the LPF 15 and also reconstructs the state model of a plant including the LPF 15 to a state model which does not need the state estimating device.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a testing device, a testing method and a disk drive unit which enable improvement in precision of screening and enable objective evaluation or robust property of a product at the design stage by using physically simple algorithm. SOLUTION: A disk drive unit 10 has a disk 11, a magnetic head 12, an actuator 13, a VCM driving circuit 14, an ADC 15, an MPU 16 for generating a control signal to move the head, and a DAC 17. In screening at a unit test step, the MPU 16 injects a high-frequency noise to the VCM driving circuit 14, then measures the locus of the head position oscillated by injection of the high-frequency noise, then extracts a frequency band equivalent to the injected high-frequency noise from the measured locus by using arithmetic processing of a digital filter, and calculates the sum of absolute values corresponding to the power of spectrum. Moreover, the MPU 16 repeatedly carries out this processing, then carries out processing for calculating the average value and variance, and discriminates abnormal mechanical resonance.
