    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection type liquid crystal display device of an interference multi-layer system having a sufficient white level without increasing the number of layers of an interference multi-layer film by laminatedly providing a combination among glass substrate/multi-layer part/light transmission layer related to at least two colors on the same position on a display device plane. SOLUTION: This device is provided with three liquid crystal layer films 11, 21, 31 corresponding to respective colors R, G, B and three interference multi-layer films 10, 20, 30 corresponding to respective liquid crystal layers, and they are inserted between two glass substrates 1, 35, and the combinations between the liquid crystal layers 11, 21, 31 and the interference multi-layer films 10, 20, 30 related to respective colors are separated by other two glass substrates 15, 25. Further, a multi-layer film part is constituted of at least two kinds of dielectric layers, and a difference Δn between respective first, second refractive indexes related to first dielectric layer and second dielectric layer is desirable to be Δn>1.2. By such a constitution, the device having the sufficient white level and keeping high color purity is provided without increasing the number of layers of the interference multi-layer film.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of improving luminance independent of the numerical aperture. SOLUTION: By arranging a lower polarizing plate 14 between an array substrate 15 and a color filter substrate 13, a beam reflected on a metallic film formed on the array substrate 15 is returned directly to a light guide plate 17. Then, the re-use efficiency of the beam is improved, and the luminance as the liquid crystal display device 10 is enhanced.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new transmission type liquid crystal display device having high contrast without decrease in the response rate and having transmittance without depending on the opening rate. SOLUTION: The transmission type liquid crystal display device 20 consists of at least a first substrate 1 and a second substrate 2 forming a pair with each other and a liquid crystal layer 3 held between the first substrate 1 and the second substrate 2. A plurality first light transmitting regions 4 are formed on the first substrate 1 and plural second light transmitting regions 5 are formed in the second substrate 2. A first reflection member 6 and a second reflection member 7 are disposed on the principal planes 1A and 2A facing each other, respectively, of the first substrate 1 and the second substrate 2 so that the external light incident through the plurality of first light transmitting regions 4 into the transmission type liquid crystal display device 20 is reflected between the first reflection member 6 and the second reflection member 7 to pass several times in the liquid crystal layer 3 and then the light is made to exit through the second light transmitting regions 5.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a substrate for liquid crystal panel formation, which has a small number of substrate cutting positions to extend the margin without changing the size or a transparent substrate and is easily cut to improve the yield and can extend a picture area, and its production method. CONSTITUTION: With respect to a substrate 10 for liquid crystal panel formation, a panel forming area 14, etc., are set on a glass substrate 12. The glass substrate 12 and a pattern on a wiring TAB area 22, etc., provided in the panel forming area 14, etc., are geometrically symmetrical as a whole with respect to a center point X. Therefore, they are merely cut along a cut line R1 to be divided into two same array substrates 10A and 10B, and there are not conventional cut-away parts to secure a large margin (c). Consequently, cutting is easy to improve the yield, and the picture area of the panel forming area 14, etc., can be made large.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new reflection type liquid crystal display element having a high reflectance and bright display colors. SOLUTION: This reflection type liquid crystal display element is provided with a first liquid crystal layer 1, a second liquid crystal layer 2 and a third liquid crystal layer 3. A first selective reflection plate 4, a second selective reflection plate 5 and a third selective reflection plate 6 are provided at the lower sides of the respective liquid crystal layers so as to be adjacent to the respective liquid crystal layers. Then the display mode of the second liquid crystal layer 2 is determined corresponding to the display mode of the first liquid crystal layer 1 and the display mode of the third liquid crystal layer 3 is determined corresponding to the display modes of the first liquid crystal layer 1 and the second liquid crystal layer 2. Thereby the polarized state of the incident light A on each of the selective reflection plates is varied and the liquid crystal display is conducted by selectively reflecting or transmitting only light of the specified wavelength region.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a wide view angle liquid crystal display device with which problems such as the complication of processes, the change of electric characteristics and the instability of oriented state are canceled. CONSTITUTION: A soluble polyimide solution a prepared by dissolving soluble polyimide, of which the pretilt angle is changed by a burning temperature, in a solvent and applied to a color filter board 12 and a TFT substrate 14. The lower half of picture elements 28 on the color filter substrate 12 and the upper half of picture elements 28 on the TFT substrate 14 are heated and dried earlier than the other parts for prescribed time by irradiating them with laser beams, and the remaining parts are naturally dried. The pretilt angle of molecule 16A of liquid crystal 16 in contact with the heated and dried part gets small but the pretilt angle of molecule 16A in contact with the naturally dried part gets large and the direction of satisfactory view angle is inverted for the upper half and lower half of picture elements 28 so that the wide view angle can be obtained.
