Abstract: In the case of a process for the production of a layered structure for vertical magnetic data storage, first of all a soft-magnetic layer (2) and then a carrier layer (3) of non-magnetic material are applied to a substrate (1). A multiplicity of discrete core tracks are made in the carrier layer (3) by bombardment with high-energy heavy ions. The core tracks are converted by etching into corresponding channels. Finally, the channels are filled with magnetic material, so that a microneedle structure comprising a multiplicity of needles (4) of magnetic material, arranged perpendicularly to the substrate surface, is produced, i.e. a magnetic form anisotropy perpendicular to the plane of the layers results.

Abstract: An apparatus for selective electrochemical etching, and an electrochemical etching process making use of this arrangement is described. The apparatus comprises a current supply, a cathode, means for making a workpiece into an anode, and means for covering the surface to be etched with an electrolyte. The current supply and the means for making an anode are designed in such a manner that two potentials are applied to the workpiece, one of which is at least as positive as the cathode potential, and the other more positive than the cathode potential. Where it is desired to etch N-doped silicon the apparatus also includes a lamp with a high light percentage in the near infrared range for irradiating the surface to be etched. GE9-78-026

Abstract: An apparatus and method for selectively electrochemically etching a surface is described. The use of the apparatus and the related method allows the establishment of etched planar surface which may be inclined with respect to the original surface. The apparatus has a cathode and multiple connectors which attach to the workpiece whose surface is to be etched. When the apparatus is operated the potential of the connectors are set so that the cathode is at least as negative as the lowest potential of the connectors.

Abstract: An anti-virus data management method comprises, receiving an instruction to write data to storage 231; examining the data for malicious content (such as malware and viruses) using a malicious content scanner 220; wherein, if no malicious content is found, writing the data and linking/associating a signature representing the version of the malicious content scanner with the data. A further method comprises, receiving an instruction to read data (identified by a data identified) from storage, the first data linked with a malicious content scanner version signature; determining the version signature of the current malicious content scanner; and examining the data for malicious content if the signatures do not match. These methods may be used in a backup system 200/230 that preserves old copies of data, and may be used in conjunction with a backup scheme where certain copies are deleted. If examining of data reveals malicious content, then an older copy may be identified (using the data identifier) and examined unless it has already been scanned using the current malicious content scanner.

Abstract: The sensor has a soft-magnetic planar structure with two flux guides separated by two non-parallel elongated gaps. Two magnetoresistive detectors (102,104) are positioned along the gaps and electrically connected to an electrical source and an electrical measurement unit. Each detector provides an electrical signal indicating relative angle between the direction of the magnetic field and the orientation of the detectors. An independent claim is also included for a signal processing system.
