The invention is directed to foamed particles comprising a polypropylene homopolymer as a base resin and having a tensile modulus of 15,000-25,000 kg/cm and a crystal structure that an inherent peak and a high-temperature peak appear as endothermic peaks on a DSC curve obtained by differential scanning calorimetry of the foamed particles. A quantity of heat at the high-temperature peak is 30-60 J/g. A molded article of foamed particles according to the invention is obtained by using the foamed particles as described above and molding them, and has a density of 0.01-0.3 g/cm and a tensile modulus of 15,000-25,000 kg/cm . It has a crystal structure that an inherent peak and a high-temperature peak appear on a DSC curve obtained by its differential scanning calorimetry like the case of the foamed particles. As with the foamed particles, a quantity of heat at the high-temperature peak is 30-60 J/g.

Abstract: The present invention provides polyolefin resin foam particles, i.e. multilayer foam particles each comprising: a core layer which is in a foamed state, and which is configured from a polyolefin resin; and a coating layer with which the core layer is coated. The coating layer is configured from a mixed resin including a polyolefin resin (A) and at least one resin (B) selected from polystyrene resins and polyester resins. The weight ratio (A:B) of the polyolefin resin (A) to the at least one resin (B) in the mixed resin is in the range of 15:85 to 90:10. The present invention also provides a composite stacked body in which a foam-particle moulded body of said polyolefin resin foam particles is used. The foam-particle moulded body exhibits excellent solvent resistance, and has a surface exhibiting excellent adhesive properties with respect to thermosetting resins. Furthermore, the foam-particle moulded body is capable of providing a composite stacked body which includes a thermosetting resin, and with which excellent productivity is exhibited.

Abstract: When it is intended to obtain foamed particles having a high expansion ratio upon the production of foamed particles of a polyolefin resin, there has been a problem that foamed particles uneven in cell diameter are produced. Any molded article produced with such foamed particles has involved a drawback that it is poor in dimensional stability, and its surface profile becomes uneven. The invention relates to foamed particles comprising a polyolefin resin as a base resin, wherein the base resin contains a metal salt (excluding alkali metal salts) of boric acid in such a manner that the content of the metal salt of boric acid in the raw resin amounts to 50-50,000 ppm. Zinc borate, magnesium borate or the like is used as the metal salt of boric acid. The foamed particles are obtained by using a polyolefin resin containing the metal salt of boric acid to prepare resin particles, dispersing the resin particles in a dispersion medium in a closed vessel and at the same time impregnating the resin particles with a foaming agent, holding the resin particles in a heated and pressurized atmosphere, and then releasing the resin particles together with the dispersion medium into an atmosphere of a pressure lower than the internal pressure of the vessel to expand the resin particles.
