    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a compound having excellent color and odor and high quality at a low cost by preparing a reaction solution containing benzalkonium halide from dimethyl-t-amine and a benzyl halide and flowing the reaction solution in the form of a thin film in an inert gas or steam. CONSTITUTION:A solution containing benzalkonium halide of formula (R is 8-30C alkyl or alkenyl) is produced by reacting a dimethyl-t-amine with a benzyl halide. The solution is flowed in the form of a thin film in a flow of a gas inert to the benzalkonium halide or in a steam flow. The evaporation of unreacted benzyl halide is promoted, the odor is improved and a benzalkonium halide having high quality is produced by this process. The contact area of the solution with the steam or inert gas can be increased without causing the foaming of the solution and the effect of the treatment can be improved by flowing the solution in the form of a thin film. The benzalkonium halide is a cationic surfactant useful as a sterilizing agent, an antiseptic agent, a wound cleaning agent, etc. The process enables the production of the compound with easy operation in a short time.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a sulfobetaine capable of being used as a bleach-activating agent by reacting raw materials in a polar solvent and subsequently crystallizing the sulfobetaine from the obtained reaction mixture containing the polar solvent. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I (M is alkali metal, alkaline earth metal) is reacted with a compound of formula II (X, X' are halogen; R is alkylene) in a polar solvent to produce a compound of formula III. The compound of formula III is reacted with a compound of formula IV (R is alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, alkyl-substituted aryl; R , R are alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, A is O, NHCO, CO, etc. ; Y is alkylene, etc. ; m is 0, 1) to produce a sulfobetaine of formula V. Therein, the polar solvent used in the reaction is distilled off, and the sulfobetaine of formula V is crystallized in some other polar solvent and collected. As the polar solvent, acetone, acetonitrile, benzonitrile, dimethylacetonitrile, etc., are especially and preferably can be exemplified.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a sulfobetaine good in solubility in bleaching and washing and further preservation stability by crystallizing the sulfobetaine from a polar solvent, separating the sulfobetaine, then adding a surfactant to the resultant sulfobetaine containing the polar solvent and subsequently drying the sulfobetaine. CONSTITUTION:An omega-halogenated fatty acid ester of phenolsulfonic acid expressed by formula I [R is alkyl; X is halogen) is made to react with an amine expressed by formula II (R is alkyl, alkenyl, etc.; R and R are alkyl; Y is alkylene, etc.; m is 0 or 1] in a polar solvent to provide a mixture or the compound expressed by formula I is allowed to react with the compound expressed by formula II and the polar solvent is added to the resultant reactional product to afford a mixture. A sulfobetaine of formula III is crystallized and separated from the prepared mixture. A surfactant is then added to the sulfobetaine containing the polar solvent and the obtained sulfobetaine is subsequently dried to afford the objective sulfobetaine. An anionic surfactant is preferred as the surfactant and, among them, a sodium alkylbenzenesulfonate or sodium alkyl sulfate is preferred. The sulfobetaine is useful as a bleaching activator in an oxygen-based bleaching agent.

CONSTITUTION:When a mixed solution of a phosphoric acid ester salt [e.g. a salt containing a monoalkyl phosphoric acid ester of the formula (R is 8-36C alkyl or alkenyl) as a main component] and a nonionic compound (e.g. organic hydroxyl compound) is continuously brought into counter-current contact with 4-8C aliphatic hydrocarbon or 5-7C saturated alicyclic hydrocarbon (preferably n-pentane) using an extractor to extract the nonionic compound into the solvent and separate the nonionic compound, a 1-4C alcohol (preferably ethanol is added so that the lower alcohol concentration in the mixed solution may become an amount of 0.5-2 pts.wt. based on 1 pts.wt. water and 1-5wt.% based on 1 pts.wt. solvent) is fed from one or more places to carry out the extraction.

CONSTITUTION:A omega-halogenated fatty acid ester of phenolsulfonic acid represented by formula II is synthesized by sulfonating a omega-halogenated fatty acid phenyl ester represented by formula I (X is a halogen; R is a 1 to 3C alkylene which may be a branched chain). The resultant compound of formula II is reacted with an amine of formula III [R is a 1 to 20C alkyl, alkenyl or a (1 to 20C alkyl-substituted)aryl; R and R are each a 1 to 3C alkyl; Y is a 1 to 10C alkylene, B-(BO)n (B is 2 to 3C alkylene; n is 0 to 10); X is O, NH-CO, CO-NH, CO, O-CO, CO-O] and a polar solvent is added to the resultant reaction product. Or, the above-mentioned reaction is carried out in a polar solvent. The resultant sulfobetaine of formula IV is subsequently crystallized and separated so as to obtain the objective compound of formula IV in the form of fine crystals. As the polar solvent, one having 8 to 22, especially 10 to 12 (cal/cc) polarization parameter (PS value) is preferable.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To readily and continuously obtain the subject compound with a high selectivity in a high yield while making the residence time short by carrying out a reaction between an aliphatic alcohol and polyphosphoric acid in a hydrocarbon-based solvent in a tubular reactor. CONSTITUTION:Using a tubular reactor, 8-36C chain aliphatic alcohol (e.g. octyl alcohol) is reacted with polyphosphoric acid in a hydrocarbon-based solvent (preferably cyclohexane, etc.) to obtain the objective compound. In addition, removal of heat of the reaction is preferably improved in the initial stage of the reaction using a multi-tubular reactor (d) and mixing and heat transfer in the reaction tube are preferably promoted in the initial stage of the reaction by equipping a static mixer in the flow path of the tubular reactor. As the direction of the liquid flow in the tubular reactor, rising flow or lowering flow is preferable.
