Abstract: An amphoteric porous particulate comprising a basic polysaccharide and a polymer of an organic acid containing a reactive vinyl group or a salt thereof and having an average particle size of 50 mu m or less, which is capable of adsorbing a large amount of an acid or a base that is stronger than the acid or basic groups thereof and which is useful as a deodorant, a cosmetic or the like. The amphoteric porous particulate is obtained by emulsifying or suspending an aqueous solution containing a basic polysaccharide and an organic acid having a reactive vinyl group in a hydrophobic solvent and thereafter effecting polymerization thereof. A deodorant comprising a chitosan particulate having an average particle size of 0.01 to 50 mu m as a deodorant. A chitosan particulate having an available amino group content of 1.0 x 10 to 1.0 x 10 mol/g and a specific surface area of 10 to 300 m /g is particularly useful. A polysiloxane having long-chain alkyl groups and a melting point of 20 DEG C or above is useful as an oil component of a deodorant.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain fine amphoteric porous particles useful as skin cosmetics, etc., by emulsifying or suspending an aqueous solution of a basic polysaccharide and an organic acid having a reactive vinyl group in a hydrophobic solvent, and polymerizing the same. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution of a basic polysaccharide (e.g. chitosan) and an organic acid having a reactive vinyl group (e.g. methacrylic acid) is added to a hydrophobic solvent (e.g. hexane) in which the solution is emulsified or suspended. The amount of the organic acid is suitably 0.1-500 moles for each monosaccharide unit of the basic polysaccharide. Then a poly-merization initiator (e.g. potassium persulfate) is added thereto, and the mixture is heated to submit it to emulsion polymerization or suspension polymerization. The resulting reaction liquid is added into an organic solvent containing a base to deposit porous fine particles. Thus there are obtained amphoteric porous fine particles with an average particle size of 50mum or less, which are composed of a polymer of an organic acid having a reactive vinyl group or a salt thereof. The porous fine particles so obtained react readily with a strong base or a strong acid in a solvent and hold it inside the particles characteristically.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a W/O-type emulsified cosmetic containing an oil-soluble hydroxy acid, a silicone oil, ethanol and a nonionic surfactant, having high stability and exhibiting excellent skin feeling and sebum-secretion suppressing effect. CONSTITUTION: This emulsified cosmetic contains (A) 0.01-20wt.% of an oil- soluble hydroxy acid (e.g. 11-hydroxydecenoic acid), (B) 1-40wt.% of a silicone oil (e.g. dimethylpolysiloxane), (C) 1-20wt.% of ethanol and (D) 0.1-10wt.% of a nonionic surfactant (e.g. polyoxyalkylene alkyl ether). The cosmetic may properly contain other conventional components and can be prepared in the form of skin cream, milky lotion, creamy foundation, cleaning agent, etc., by conventional method. A homogeneous emulsion can be produced even by using the silicone oil and ethanol in large amounts. The cosmetic has excellent aging stability, is free from oily feeling and stickiness, gives excellent feeling to the skin and exhibiting excellent effect for suppressing the secretion of sebum.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound having methyl group and hydroxyl group at β position and capable of providing an animal-based fragrance. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I (R is a 3-4C straight- chain or branched chain alkyl) or its salt, e.g. 3-hydroxy-3-methylhexanoic acid. The compound of formula I is obtained by subjecting a compound of formula II to Reformatskii Reaction with a compound of the formula X-CH2 -COOEt (X is a halogen) to afford an ester of formula III having OH group at β-position, and hydrolyzing the resultant ester. The compound of formula I singly has putrifactive smell, but the compound can be used as a perfuming component of animal-based fragrance by combining with other perfume component at a low concentration and, in this case, the compound of formula I is blended in an amount of 0.001-5wt.%. The compound of formula I can be used for perfume, soap, shampoo, rinse, detergent, cosmetic, spray, flavoring agent, etc.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an inhibitor of sebum secretion having excellent safety, effectiveness and utility. CONSTITUTION:An inhibitor of sebum secretion comprising beta-glycyrrhizic acid or a salt thereof, for example, an alkali salt such as sodium salt, potassium salt or an alkaline earth metal such as calcium salt, a basic amino acid or an alkanolamine as an active ingredient. The inhibitor of sebum secretion is suitable as an external preparation for application to skin of face or scalp, is applicable as a medicine and a quasi-drug and is missible with cosmetics. The amount of the active ingredient in a base in the case of use as an external preparation is 0.05-3.0wt.%, especially 0.1-1.5wt.%, and 10 to 10 mg calculated as beta-glycyrrhizic acid is usually applied to face and scalp daily once to several times. beta-Glycyrrhizic acid can be produced by extraction from licorice root or synthesis by conventional method and is known to have no undesirable influence locally and systemically.
