Abstract: An amphoteric porous particulate comprising a basic polysaccharide and a polymer of an organic acid containing a reactive vinyl group or a salt thereof and having an average particle size of 50 mu m or less, which is capable of adsorbing a large amount of an acid or a base that is stronger than the acid or basic groups thereof and which is useful as a deodorant, a cosmetic or the like. The amphoteric porous particulate is obtained by emulsifying or suspending an aqueous solution containing a basic polysaccharide and an organic acid having a reactive vinyl group in a hydrophobic solvent and thereafter effecting polymerization thereof. A deodorant comprising a chitosan particulate having an average particle size of 0.01 to 50 mu m as a deodorant. A chitosan particulate having an available amino group content of 1.0 x 10 to 1.0 x 10 mol/g and a specific surface area of 10 to 300 m /g is particularly useful. A polysiloxane having long-chain alkyl groups and a melting point of 20 DEG C or above is useful as an oil component of a deodorant.

Preferably, an alkyl acrylate.methacrylate copolymer having the formula (R is a 10-30C alkyl; X and Y are each a mol% of each constituting unit in the copolymer and X is 80.0-99.9mol% and Y is 0.1-20.0mol%) is used as the alkyl-modified carboxyvinyl polymer. Preferably, powder having >=1.0g/g oil absorption measured by using squarane or a polymer obtained by polymerizing and making to be porous or one kind or more than two kinds of vinylic monomers having 7-10 solubility parameter as the hydrophobic oil-absorbent powder. The cosmetic may contain about 0.1-10wt.% of the powder and about 0.01-2wt.% of the gelling agent.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To give dry touch and high moisture retention with oily or greasy feeling markedly reduced on application by formulating an acrylic acid-alkyl methacrylate copolymer, a spherical particle powder and a volatile silicone to a cosmetic. CONSTITUTION:A cosmetic is mixed with an acrylic acid-alkyl methacrylate copolymer, a spherical particle powder, and a volatile silicone to this cosmetic which gives moist touch with causing no oily and greasy feelings, when applied to skin and shows high moisture retention. The acrylic acid-alkyl methacrylate copolymer preferably has the formula (R is a 10-30C alkyl; X, Y are mole% in the monomer units, respectively where X=80.0-99.9mole%, while Y=0.1-20.0 mole%). The powder has preferably 1-50mum particle sizes and is preferably made of nylon. The amounts of the copolymer, the spherical particle powder and the silicone are 0.01-2.0wt.%, 0.1-20.0wt.% and 0.1-30.0wt.%, respectively.
