Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To create and measure an event provided with a continuing time for only several nano-seconds by stipulating a symbol transition time between symbols by a frequency measurement value. SOLUTION: The second copy of a quadrature phase shift keyed(QPSK) signal passes through a frequency modulator (FM demodulator) 120 to create the measurement value of an instantaneous frequency of the signal. A peak detector 124 catches a peak in a frequency output and creates a signature. A digital signal processor 126 gives a proper signature signal (signature event) to a call processor 128, demodulates a time slot symbol in a T/2 symbol period and obtains phase transition between the two prescribed symbols. The processor 126 monitors a T/2 window and catches the occurrence of the peak. The call processor 128 receives the signature event and seals a time stamp on it. The demodulated inter-symbol transition time is stipulated based on the frequency measurement value.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an inexpensive handoff technology by completing transmission of a first half forward channel part of a calling, at the same time as start of transmission of a latter half forward channel part of the calling. SOLUTION: When a radio terminal 303 moves beyond a cell boundary dealt with by a base station 302-1, handoff is triggered. The handoff from the base station 302-1 of the radio terminal 303 to a base station 302-2 is constituted of two individual steps, that is, a step for handing off a forward channel 304 and a step for handing off a backward channel 305. The handoff of the forward channel 304, and the backward channel 305 are preferably performed at the same time. Then, the transmission of the first half forward channel part of calling is completed at the same time as start of the transmission of the latter half forward channel part of the calling.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To synchronize a sample process with a receiving symbol by providing a means using the measured value of the frequency of a phase modulation signal in order to control sample timing for sampling a demodulation symbol, etc. SOLUTION: The 2nd part of a QPSK signal is made to pass through an FM demodulator 120 and generates the measured value of an instantaneous frequency being a phase derivative value from a phase including transmitted data. The measured value of the frequency is used for controlling sample timing, and subsequently, an instantaneous frequency output from the demodulator 120 is added to a peak detector 124. The detector 124 generates a signature to be added to a digital signal processor 126. The processor 126 generates an appropriate sample timing signal by using the signature and gives it to a sample timing generator 128.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce adjacent and common channel interference inside a TDMA communication system by stopping modulation in the inactive time slot of carrier frequency signals to be transmitted. SOLUTION: An execution control processor(ECP) 40 is cable-connected to base stations 10, 20 and 30 respectively positioned inside cells 1-3, and in down-link transmission from the base stations 10, 20 and 30 to mobile equipment 50, a carrier frequency and a time slot for transmitting sound or data are specified. The modulator 101 of the base station 10 modulates the sound or the data provided from the ECP 40 and sends them to an antenna 109 for wireless transmission to the mobile equipment 50. Then, the modulation of the carrier frequency signals in the inactive time slot is stopped. The transmission power of the carrier frequency signals is reduced by stopping the modulation of the carrier frequency signals for the period of the inactive time slot and thus, the adjacent and common channel interference is reduced.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide operation information for a traffic radio which serves active channels by scanning the active channels of a base station. SOLUTION: Active channels of a base station are scanned by measuring radio 614 (614A, 614B) to measure operation information of radio 612A to N, i.e., the signal intensity, BER(bit error rate), FER(frame error rate), signal-to- interference radio (C/I), etc. According to the operation information, the traffic radio 612A to N determine whether or not the method for servicing the active channels is to be changed or not. For example, when difference antenna sets 620A to N can be switched, the measuring radio 614 scans active sound/data channels by using an antenna set different from the current antenna set to serve the active channels and determines the operation information regarding a received signal. The measuring radio 614 can determine operation information on an operation coefficients, parameters, settings, etc., and change the active channels that the traffic radio 612A to N are using.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely synchronize the timing signal of a radio communication base station. SOLUTION: A base station 502 generates its own timing signal based on the frequency of a reference timing signal and the phase of a feedback signal. The reference timing signal can be provided from one common timing source and from various timing sources designed so as to have the same frequency as well. The feedback signal is generated as a result of joining two feedback loops. In the first (second) feedback loop, the feedback signal is based on the phase of the timing signal of the base station itself (based on the phase of timing signals from one or plural nearby base stations). The feedback signal is generated based on the logic AND or NAND function of timing signals of the base station itself and any nearby base station.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wireless remote communication system and its method that uses the positional information of a wireless mobile unit to transmit a message to a traveler. SOLUTION: The wireless remote communication system receives information from the wireless mobile unit and determines that the wireless mobile unit is within a designated area. A message server on the location basis placed at the center receives information specific to the designated area. When a traveler enters the designated area, the wireless mobile unit receives information specific to the area such as information concerning traffic problems in the designated area and a desired place. Alternatively, when the problems are identified and designated to be related to the specific area, the wireless mobile unit is identified so that the information relating to the problems is outputted to the wireless mobile unit in the designated area. Thus, the traveler can receive specific information at a place the traveler is present.

In an embodiment, while a mobile station is transmitting in a discontinued transmission mode, a base station decides the level of the interference at the active time slot by using a power level measurement processed in a DTX OFF period. In another embodiment, the base station instructs to the mobile station to stop transmission between SACCH parts of the time slot, and decides measured value of the interference level 1 by using the power level measurement processed for non-active SACCH field. Furthermore in another embodiment, the interference level 1 is decided by using the power level measurement processed for a guard and a ramp field.
