    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new routing protocol of Ad-Hoc network. SOLUTION: In this method, a source node holds the position information, routing information of all nodes inside a local node topology and the rough position information of partial nodes outside the local topology. When it is necessary for the source node to transmit a packet to a destination node inside the local topology, the routing information is already provided. When it is necessary for the source node to transmit a packet to a destination node outside the local topology, however, which node inside the local topology is closest to the destination node is specified while using the rough position information of the destination node. When this specified node is not the source node, the source node transmits the packet to the specified node and transmits the packet to the destination node later. In the other case, the packet is dropped.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a reverse-link outer loop power control(ROLPC) based on a bit error rate BER that has adaptive compensation with respect to a BER target and takes the difference between the mean value and the median of the BER into account in a wireless communication system. SOLUTION: In the case of carrying out the ROLPC based on a BER after decoding, a user metric target is changed as a function of the 'signature' of a communication channel. The base station utilizes the ROLPC system using the BER after decoding for the user metric target. The ROLPC system uses either of an instantaneous value of the BER and a value weakly filtered to compare the target SNR with the target BER for the adjustment. The target BER value is changed as a function of a secondary statistic of the received SNR (e.g. variance, standard deviation). The secondary statistic of the received SNR represents the signature of a communication channel.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively suppress transmission power in the forward link of a code division multiple access(CDMA) remote communication system by offset ting a reference power level to a level suitable for current frame speed through an offset controller. SOLUTION: Between an FER(frame error rate) monitor/power controller 20 and a variable speed transmitter (VRT) 30, an offset controller 40 is installed for offsetting a reference power level PREF to the level suitable for the current frame speed. Further, the numerical value of PREF is received, and that numerical value is adjusted as the function of frame speed received from a vocoder 10. When the frame speed changes, the numerical value of PREF is adjusted as the function of an offset numerical value generated corresponding to the new frame speed. Afterwards, it is supplied to the VRT 30 as an offset power level POS. In this case, a channel coded frame is transmitted. Thus, the transmission power in the forward link of the CDMA remote communication system can be effectively controlled.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a capability for estimating QoS watched from an end user by providing a method and a device for estimating a bit error rate in respect to a bearer service to use a convolution coding scheme. SOLUTION: In a universal mobile telecommunication system(UMTS) based system, a wireless receiver performs 'effective signal-to-noise (Eb /No ) based BER estimation'. Especially, the wireless receiver is provided with a rake receiver, a processor and a memory. The rake receiver processes a received signal and provides an S/N value in respect to each of slots in each of receiving frames of the received signal. The processor converts such an S/N value in respect to each of receiving frames to an effective S/N value in respect to the received signal. Then, the processor uses the effective S/N value as a pointer or index in respect to a look-up table (stored in the memory) and retrieves a BER estimate value therefrom.

SOLUTION: An Eb/N0 detector 330 measures the quality measured value (Eb/N0) of a signal received by a receiver 320 in the base station 210 of the radio communication system, a processor 350 calculates an effective signal quality measured value for a certain time length, a 1st comparator 360 compares a model target signal quality measured value with the effective signal quality measured value, and an aggregating device 370 increases a target quality measured value only by one step-up size, when the effective signal quality measured value is smaller than the model target quality measured value or reduces the target quality measured value only by one step-down size, when the effective quality measured value is larger than the model target quality measured value to adjust the target signal quality measured value, while corresponding to a fact that the effective signal quality measured value is different from the model target signal quality measured value. A 2nd comparator compares the target signal quality measured value with a received signal quality measured value and sends the adjustment request of the signal power from a mobile terminal to the mobile terminal.

SOLUTION: The base station of an active set uses a forward traffic channel and synchronously transmits the copy of an HD message. The candidate base station uses the paging channel of the candidate base station and transmits the HD message with the identification number of the mobile telephone set to the mobile telephone set. At the time of setting up the network connection of soft hand-off, the mobile telephone set moves from a position R to a position R2. At the position R2, the ratio of a signal to noise on the signal transmitted by the base station 26-4 of the active set drops and the ratio of the signal to noise on the signal transmitted by the base station 26-3 increases. At that time, probability that the HD message transmitted from the candidate base station 26-3 is more precisely received compared with the HD message transmitted from the base station 26-4 of the active set becomes higher.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus to quickly adjust a targeted E b/N0 (270, 470) in a wireless communication system by using an effective E b/N0 (310, 510) for each frame. The E b/N0 distribution of a frame produces a certain frame error rate. Effective E b/N 0 (310, 510) is the E b/N0 that would produce the same frame error rate in a model channel, such as an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. The effective E b/N0 (310, 510) for eac h frame is obtained and compared to a model targeted E b/N0 (250, 480). The E b/N0 for all of the power control groups in one frame compose the vector E b/N0 (300, 500). The effective E b/N0 (310, 510) for the frame is obtained by mapping a vector E b/N0 (300, 500) into a scalar. The model targeted E b/N0 (280, 480) is the E b/N0 value that produces a desired frame error rate in the model channel. The targeted E b/N0 (270, 280) is increased by one up step si ze when the effective E b/N0 (310, 510) is smaller than the model targeted E b/N0 (280, 480) and i s decreased by one down step size when the effective E b/N0 (310, 510) is larger than the model targeted E b/N0 (280, 480). E b/N0 (290, 490) are measured for each power control group in a frame . The wireless communication system includes a transmitter (400) to transmit a signal, a receiver (320) to receive the signal, and an outer control loop (250, 450) to adjust the targeted E b/N0 (270, 470) based on a comparison of the effective E b/N0 (310, 510) of the signal to th e model targeted E b/N0 (280, 480). Preferably, the outer control loop (250, 450) is implemented in software, although it can be implemented in hardware. Obtaining an effective E b/N0 (310, 510) for each time period allows quicker adjustments of the targeted E b/N0 (270, 470). Th is permits the targeted E b/N0 (270, 470) to be closer to an E b/N0 that produces a desired frame error rate, especially if the mobile is moving. This allows the transmitted power to be closer to the power needed to produce the desired frame error rate, permitting an increase in th e capacity of the wireless communication system while still maintaining an acceptable number o f errors.
