Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and its system that assign impartially and efficiently an additional band in a cellular communication system that supports transmission/reception of a data burst with a mobile body. SOLUTION: An initial request relating to assignment of an additional band and a consecutive request relating to reassignment of the additional band to a burst while it is continuing are received and whether the initial request and the consecutive request are accepted or rejected is decided. In the case that the requests are rejected, an instruction to send a retrial request is given after a back-off time. Furthermore, a retrial request relating to the assignment of the additional band after a preceding request is rejected is received and whether the retrial request is accepted or rejected is decided. In the case that the retrial request is rejected, an instruction to send the retrial request is given after the back-off time.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an effective mechanism for performing main transfer in a system for supporting the transmission of forward link data only in a unidirectional mode by incorporating at least one packet of forward link data requested by a new main base station into a queue and enabling the transmission of all the forward link data through a radio interface. SOLUTION: When setting a new registration ID for the first time, a frame selective distribution(FSD) function element starts a radio link protocol(RLP) function element for providing a service to a call. The RLP function element provides a equal frame selecting function for data segments. As frame selection for signal communication to be processed by a main cell, a message for signal except for the negative response of RLP received by the backward link of a leg composed of the FSD function element such as pilot strength measuring message(PSMM) or sub channel request message(SCRM), for example, is returned as it is.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the successful rate of soft hand-off by transmitting a message on a second communication channel belonging to a candidate base station and hearing it by a mobile telephone set. SOLUTION: The base station of an active set uses a forward traffic channel and synchronously transmits the copy of an HD message. The candidate base station uses the paging channel of the candidate base station and transmits the HD message with the identification number of the mobile telephone set to the mobile telephone set. At the time of setting up the network connection of soft hand-off, the mobile telephone set moves from a position R to a position R2. At the position R2, the ratio of a signal to noise on the signal transmitted by the base station 26-4 of the active set drops and the ratio of the signal to noise on the signal transmitted by the base station 26-3 increases. At that time, probability that the HD message transmitted from the candidate base station 26-3 is more precisely received compared with the HD message transmitted from the base station 26-4 of the active set becomes higher.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remarkably reduce reaction delay by determining whether or not each backward link data packet received from a first base station is to be contained in the reconstituted frame of backward link data through a data selecting function part on the basis of at least one of assigned time lag and assigned sequence number. SOLUTION: A forward link RLP transfer function is executed by a method distributed to a forward link RLP (BE/RLP) in the base station and a forward link RLP transfer function (FS/RLP) in a selective frame distributing function element. The FS/RLP function element divides incoming forward link data into RLP data unit size and assigns serial original RLP numbers to each segment. Continuously, the FS/RLP function element transfers the forward link data to the BS/RLP function element together with this serial number information. Physical layer framing is performed by the BS/RLP function element.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a mobile station to be operated in different activated states with respect to a forward link channel and a backward link by transmitting a power control signal to the mobile station from a base station and controlling the transmission power level of a backward link channel by permitting the mobile station to use the transmitted power control signal. SOLUTION: When a mobile unit is in an active state, a power control sub- channel is detached from a forward-only control channel (F-DCCH) and a forward basic channel (F-FCII) and backward link power is controlled by using a common power control channel (PCCH) instead. The power control channels on a forward link common power control channel (F-PCCH) control the power of a backward link enhanced access(R-EACH) or the power of a backward link common control channel (R-CCCH) with respect to a different mobile unit receiving the service of a base station transmitting F-PCCH.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time for retransmitting an error information block (e.g. deteriorated frame) and to improve the throughput of a communication channel where information is transported by applying a data puncture operation to information transmitted by a communication system, based on information on a received signal. SOLUTION: A receiver 109 of a user device 106 receives an information block via a forward link 102. Feedback or error restoration data extracted by a processor 111 is contained in the received information block and it is decided whether previous information transmitted by the user device 106 is to be retransmitted. The user device 106 transmits appropriate decoding status data to information which is transmitted at present and time, when the information block is retransmitted is reduced. The insertion of decoding status data into transmitted information is called data puncture.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently perform an automatic repetition request by making an identification number correspond to at least one unit of data to be transmitted. SOLUTION: On a receiver side, variables V(N) and V(R) are monitored. The variable V(N) shows a maximum sequence number, by which all the bytes of previous data are received without errors. V(R) shows the sequence number of subsequently new data byte, which is expected to be received from a transmitter. A variable VT(N) is a value of V(N), which is received the latest from the receiver in a control message sent from the receiver to the transmitter. A variable VT(R) is the latest value of the variable V(R) transmitted to the transmitter from the receiver in the control message. The variable V(S) is the sequence number allocated to the byte of next data, which is to be transmitted to the receiver from the transmitter.

Abstract: A back haul architecture enables efficient primary transfer (i.e., transfer of the designation of primary base station from one base station to another). A frame selection/distribution (FSD) function queues packets of forward-link data -- to which sequence numbers ha ve been assigned -- for packet-mode transmission over the back haul only to one base station -- the current primary base station -- where the packets are again queued for over-the-air transmission to the mobile unit. If and when it becomes appropriate to transfer the designation of primary ba se station to another base station, there may still be packets of data queued at the old primary base station awaiting transmission to the mobile unit. The old primary base station sends a messag e to the new primary base station indicating a particular sequence number that identifies the remaining packets of forward-link data queued at the old primary base station. The new primary ba se station then sends a message to the FSD function requesting transmission of those packets of forward-link data corresponding to the particular sequence number. The FSD function then transmits those requested packets of forward-link data to the new primary base station, which queues t he requested packets for over-the-air transmission to the mobile unit. In this way, transmission of all of the forward-link data to the mobile unit is enabled without having to transmit the remaining queued packets of forward-link data from the old primary base station to the new primary base station over the back haul, thereby providing an efficient mechanism for primary transfer in wireless communications systems that support forward-link data transmissions only in simplex mode.

Abstract: A back haul architecture effectively reduces the reactivation times for both forward-link and reverse-link data transmissions over CDMA wireless communications systems, by relying on packet-mode transmissions over the back haul between a frame selection/distribution (FSD) function and the appropriate base stations for both forward-link data and reverse-link data. In particular, for the forward direction, the FSD function transmits forward-link data only to one base station (i.e., the primary base station), which is solely responsible for controlling the forward-link air interface with the corresponding mobile unit. As such, the forward link always operates in simplex mode for data transmissions, independent of how many base stations are operating in soft handoff for the reverse link with the same mobile unit. For the reverse direction, each base station that receives frames of reverse-link data from the mobile unit, assigns a time tag to the frame, divides the frame into one or more data packets, assigns a different sequence number to each data packet, and transmits the data packets to the FSD function over the back haul, all without first synchronizing time with any other base station that is also operating in reverse-link soft hand-off with that mobile unit. The FSD function (or preferably the radio link protocol (RLP) function) is then responsible for selecting packets of reverse-link data for subsequent processing (e.g., transmission to the network end of the connection). By limiting forward-link data transmissions to simplex mode and using packet-mode transmissions for reverse-link data, the need to first synchronize timing between the various base stations is eliminated for both forward-link and reverse-link data transmissions. As a result, reactivation delays are greatly reduced.
