    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the polling rate in a data transmission system (e.g. mobile telephone network) having a base station and a plurality of satellite stations. SOLUTION: The all transmitters of the base station and all receivers of the satellite stations are tuned to the same downlink channel, all the transmitters of the satellite stations and all the receivers of the base station are tuned to a common uplink channel and at least one auxiliary uplink channel. The base station has a control means that generates a series of data packets and transmits the packets to the satellites. Each data packet has a header and a payload. In the header, the configuration and length are variable, and the header includes a 1st uplink state flag 12 for identifying a 1st selected satellite, at least one 2nd uplink state flag 14 for identifying a 2nd selected satellite, the identification 18 of the auxiliary uplink channel and a time slot 16.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a packet exchange cellular radio communication hand-over system that can provide excellent QoS to RT transmission during hand-over in a GPRS and an EGPRS. SOLUTION: A cellular wireless communication system realizes hand-over of wireless transmission between a mobile station 32 and a cell of a network into wireless transmission between the cell of the network and other cell. The mobile station 32 has operation modes relating to the network as follows (a); a mobile station control autonomous re-selection mode where no measurement result is reported to the network, (b); mobile station control autonomous cell re-selection mode where the report of measurement result is transmitted to the network, (c); a network control cell re-selection mode where the mobile station reports the measurement result to the network, and (d); a network control real time cell selection mode where the mobile station reports the measurement result to the network. In the mode (c), the mobile station 32 can transmit a packet cell revision request message to the network in response to a local standard.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a method is provided for soft vertical handovers. The method includes requesting a handover from a first wireless network that operates according to a first protocol to a second wireless network that operates according to a second protocol, the first protocol being different than the second protocol, via a first wireless telecommunication link that operates according to the first protocol. The method also includes forming, in response to the handover request, a second wireless telecommunications link according to the first and second protocols, the second wireless telecommunications link being concurrent with the first wireless telecommunication link. The method further includes dropping the first wireless telecommunications link after forming the second wireless telecommunications link.

    Abstract: The present invention is to a method of monitoring state of a telecommunications network, and to a telecommunications network comprising a complexity determinator. The network comprises a plurality of nodes, each node is at a time on one of a number of node states dependent upon a predetermined set of rules and local conditions at the node. The method/ complexity determinator comprises determining the value of a parameter dependent upon entropy (which is a measure of how random the system behaviour is) of the node states in the network. The present invention provides entropy based complexity measurement for behaviour analysis of self organising telecommunications networks. Specifically, the application of the entropy-based complexity measure in telecommunications networks is useful to examine behaviours of localised distributed algorithms (LDA), (operative at Base Station levels and uses only local information and simple local rules at the Base Stations). The behaviour of self-organising LDA networks can thus be investigated to determine network-wide trends. The complexity measurement is used for setting the size of the Base Station cells.
