    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for solving collision through the use of an acquisition system and to provide a device to perform this method. SOLUTION: The collision recovery signal processing unit 48 of this invention has an antenna 50 having branches, time spatial filter means 52, 54 that are respectively configured to estimate a signal received by the antenna through the reception of different sequences of a training type symbol TLS so as to provide corresponding object signals SC1-SCM, and a signal selector 56 that is configured to select one signal or more from the object signals in compliance with a prescribed criterion. The prescribed criterion means a distance of the object signal from a finite alphabet or a mean square error among the object signals. The time spatial filter means 52, 54 perform an algorithm or a semi- blind algorithm on the basis of the same training.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the polling rate in a data transmission system (e.g. mobile telephone network) having a base station and a plurality of satellite stations. SOLUTION: The all transmitters of the base station and all receivers of the satellite stations are tuned to the same downlink channel, all the transmitters of the satellite stations and all the receivers of the base station are tuned to a common uplink channel and at least one auxiliary uplink channel. The base station has a control means that generates a series of data packets and transmits the packets to the satellites. Each data packet has a header and a payload. In the header, the configuration and length are variable, and the header includes a 1st uplink state flag 12 for identifying a 1st selected satellite, at least one 2nd uplink state flag 14 for identifying a 2nd selected satellite, the identification 18 of the auxiliary uplink channel and a time slot 16.

    Abstract: In the GPRS, a method of decoding uplink status having reduced interleaving depth in a RLC/MAC block is proposed; for RT-EGPRS users, all of the uplink flag bits are provided in the first burst of the four bursts; and for EGPRS users, nine bits of the uplink status flags are provided in the first burst of the RLC/MAC block and the remaining bits in the next three bursts. On receiving the first nine bits, a mobile performs an autocorrelation to identify the USF whether it belongs to the EGPRS or to the RT-EGPRS group.

    Abstract: A method of encoding at least two sets of data bits into a single encoded block is provided, wherein each set of data bits includes a primary set of bits to be encoded and a secondary set of bits to remain unencoded, wherein the encoding technique requires a set of code terminating bits to be added to the primary set of bits, the method comprising: combining the two sets of primary bits; and encoding the combined two sets of primary bits, whereby one set of code terminating bits is added to the combined two sets of primary bits. The two sets of data bits may each include a header portion and a payload portion, the payload portion comprising encoded speech. The encoding step may be a channel encoding step for encoding the at least two sets of data bits for transmission on a packet switched network. The data bits may be for transmission on an EDGE packet switched network, wherein the at least two sets of data bits are encoded into a single RLC/MAC block.
